I made a large point that included many examples and you single out one? Since you singled him out, Bush, Christie and Clinton did at least run a state.

He is a fiscal conservative, socially moderate, moderate on environmental issues, moderate on cultural issues. I honestly think that when you really get down to it, the Republican primary voters care more about social / cultural issues than fiscal issues. That is why despite the terrible shape the economy is in, they spend a good portion of the debates on social issues. So that could be a problem for someone like Christie that is not a total nutter like much of the base.

That said, I will say it again, his biggest problem is his morbid obesity. Most successful politicians are fitness freaks. Bush ran and biked a lot. Obama is in the gym daily. Scott Brown does triathlons. Half of congress does P90x.

Well, maybe we need another Taft.

His politics and views on social issues are much easier to digest than the Tea-Baggers.

However, this is the same reason why the GOP may reject him, as he is too rational, too logical, and too intelligent.

I haven't watched as it's the Perry/Romney show so I've not been intrested but how many social issues (outside of immigration perhaps) have been discussed during the debates?

Much of this comes from the fast rise of Perry and the even faster fall of Perry due to his performance in the last two debates. While much of the public has not yet caught up, the professionals smell weakness and blood in the water in the Texas governor. I suspect that Palin is also keeping an eye on this and if Christie jumps in that would only make it easier for her to join in also.

The other, of course, involves orcs.... John Rogers

And yet, it seems they support him. Maybe perceptions are not what many paint them to be?

If the Tea Party endorses Christie, that means their commitment to their right-wing extremist social values is all for show.
