We have had this argument on the board many times. The reality is that the Nazi party took aspects of left and right ideology, basically whatever worked best for what Hitler wanted.

Yes, I agree with retaining the option. However, my point is, that even the mere option should only be raised if government becomes oppressive on a routine basis, becomes a dictatorship, or something of that nature. Mere policy disagreements over a few % of tax rates or the proper rules for abortion is far from that dire situation and is instead the type of policy discussion any mature and civilized society would and should be having (preferably with more give and take on both sides, but welcome to the immediate gratification culture), meaning that as we are right now, even making a point such as "We have guns" without just cause to make this sort of threat does nothing to promote ones cause and also make them look like a bully or someone who will force their views on you, by direct force if necessary, instead of by the ballot box, thus becoming the thing they claim that they are defending against.

This is another liberal-leaning household with CC permits and plenty of firearms. Outlets like Fox and talk-radio have convinced many on the right that liberal voters want to take their guns away. That is poppycock. Liberals have guns too.

Practically everyone I know has a gun. None of them have a permit. You do not need a permit to own a gun. So which one are thinking about getting?
