Wildfire now within the city limits of Houston

Just got back from Highway 6 and Westheimer area. Huge wildfire there. George Bush Park is gone, and the fire is moving through a nearby woods. Looks like the firefighters were beginning to contain it, and then it broke the containment lines. This is the very first time that I can ever remember a wildfire within the Houston city limits.

There is some information on it here.

Dislike. I hope they contain it before it spreads to homes and businesses. I know a lot of customers in the Westheimer area.

    Wow, inside Houston city limits?

I tried to find a map that showed all the fires burning in Texas right now, but I couldn't find a recent one. Are the fires getting contained at all? Or is it just getting worse?
It's pretty awful, from all the news I've been hearing.

No homes are threatened at the present time, and there are no evacuation orders. Kind of ironic, though. Rick Perry prayed for rain, and George Bush park has now burned down.

The Tri-County Fire is now about 60% contained. That one came within yards of my band's studio in Magnolia. Edison Freeman, our band leader, was interviewed by Channel 13, and he was saying he was not going to evacuate. Hours later he was evicted from his home by a court order, and wasn't able to return for 3 days. Earlier this year, a band mate of mine's sister lost her home in the Dyer Mill fire. We just had a benefit for the people who lost their homes in that one, and days later a bigger wildfire broke out. The fires here are bad, but the Bastrop county fire, towards Austin, is even worse. More than 1,600 homes have been lost in that one. The George Bush Park fire won't be that bad. It is burning towards a reservoir, and should be contained there.

Not all of it, but we are holding benefits, and so are others. Folks in the stricken areas take care of their own.

As an Aussie who lives in a Country frequently ravaged by bushfires, i know how destructive they can be. i feel your pain and i understand the mateship involved with looking out for each other.

let's hope they are out soon with a minimal amount of damage. take care.

9AM Update - This fire is about 99% contained, and should be history by the end of today.

    No homes lost.
