Bachmann: I'll get gas under $2

Any more opinions that you want to try and pass off as proof?

And I note you still have not offered one tiny bit of proof that your plan would actually do any good. Keep up the good work!

It's not going to do any harm. More jobs, more cash flow, more confidence in the private market, low fuel prices--maybe/maybe not.

We've seen how much good the green jobs have done for everyone.

<Shocked disbelief> Do you know what lead does to the developing human brain? If we need to cause brain damage to our children in order to keep driving our cars, we need to start riding bicycles.

... or is this a clever plot to make more future Bachmann voters?

So if I was to run an old car I would die?

It would increase what most of us pay to maintain our cars, so we'd lose those savings anyway.

You have offered nothing, have not addressed a single point, and continue to make wild claims you cannot back up. Do you have anything at all?

I can answer that.

No, he had nothing...he has nothing..and he will have nothing.

Let the crazy promises begin!!

Bachmann: I'll get gas under $2 - Dan Berman and Molly Ball - POLITICO.com

How do you think that'll happen. Isn't oil freely traded? I guess you could nationalize the oil industry and regulate gas prices. That would be nothing like socialism...

Its all about supply and demand so this should not be hard to work out. Its a known fact that if we start drilling tomorrow it will take up to ten years before we see oil from the new wells, that pretty much eliminates increasing supply to decrease prices that only leaves reducing demand. My guess is that she will eliminate some of our competitors for the available oil like maybe China. Now just think if China's demand for oil was eliminated not only would we see a huge increase on the supply side but our deficit problem would be resolved over nite.

Now on a more serious point the republicans believe that they can tell their flock any thing and they will buy it, they had 60% plus believing that President Obama was not a citizen of America

So if I was to run an old car I would die?

Does it have seatbelts? How old are we talking? :)

You can run an old car on unleaded (usually need to up the octane, but it works). Driving a newer car on leaded? For a little while....then not so much.

“The day that the president became president gasoline was $1.79 a gallon. Look at what it is today,” she said at an event in Greenville, S.C.. “Under President Bachmann, you will see gasoline come down below $2 a gallon again. That will happen.”

So is that a fact? Did gas go up to over 4 dollars a gallon in some parts of the country in just the first few years of an Obama presidency? If it can climb $2 + in 2.5 years then why is it unfathomable to believe it can go back down 1.40? Didnt gas drop approx 50 cents a gallon recently triggered by nothing more than the release of strategic reserves?

Personally...I'd like to see the plan that backs up the promise.

I didn't read all the replies but I'll start by saying that it is stupid to make specific promises like this. Politicians like to make stupid promises. I don't know why.

To bring down gas.

1. Quit attacking the dollar. This includes QE.
2. Enact a tax on trades.
3. Raise the margins
4 Tax capital gains the same as regular income.

Gas will fall.

I was thinking we'd have to go heavy on alternatives while simultaneously going heavy on US drilling and production. Lowering U.S. demand, avoiding OPEC oil, and pushing the hell out of electric/carbon/NG vehicles.
Shoes and bikes, those are the ultimate alternatives to gasoline.

Releasing the reserves had a cumalative effect of squat. The reason oil has fallen recently is because QE2 ended.

If she released her plan to bring gas down to under $2.00 she would be a sho in for President, so why does she not just put it out their?

Bachmann is all talk.

this is why she won't win in 2012. not for the primary and certainly not in the general election.

A good idea would be to tap heavily our offshores and use our oil reserves while it takes 3-5 years to actually see the production

Honestly, even though she is otherwise bat**** insane. If I believe that Bachmann could accomplish this, I would vote for her.

No single thing would do more to get our economy back on track.

Stop putting all the expensive, government mandated additives into it and stop making unleaded gasoline.
Please go to WIKI to get an understanding of the complexities of the engineering in gas. You now have no clue. Are you expert in other areas?

Where are our offshore reserves? BP owns a lot of them. I thought oil was fungible. Are there any reserves that are ours?

I dont know...Obama has been in office for 2.5 years and he is still just talking about his jobs plan. Maybe they have ulterior motives. Maybe they dont really have a plan. I dont KNOW what Bachmanns plan is to achieve her goal. If it is indeed just rhetoric without a plan she should be called on it for sure.

At this stage in the electoral process all I have seen from anyone is talk. I will be voting Libertarian again unless there is some radical change. I dont expect that to happen.

I don't think Obama has a plan per se, but recently he's been talking about a lot of initiatives (admittedly initiatives conservatives won't like) i.e. green/clean energy, patent reform (the current patent system is hindering the software industry), infrastructure bank, private-public partnerships for infrastructure revitalization, etc.

If the GOP candidates want to stay relevant, I feel that they need to have a jobs agenda beyond just austerity, because while the debt is a drag on the economy in the long run, austerity doesn't work all that well in the short run either.
