Pfffffffffft.

OPEC likes the fact that gas is as high as it is, and if they could have it their way, it'd be higher. They're never gonna let it go that low again.

And if it did happen, we'd see a few investors doing the following thing.

Let the crazy promises begin!!

Bachmann: I'll get gas under $2 - Dan Berman and Molly Ball - POLITICO.com

How do you think that'll happen. Isn't oil freely traded? I guess you could nationalize the oil industry and regulate gas prices. That would be nothing like socialism...

Perhaps her plan is to allow for more ready access to the existing US oil fields that have been unused. Assuming she isnt advocating for nationalization (which is a pretty safe assumption considering her position on the expanded role of government) the only way she could influence greatly reduced gas prices is to increase supply or dramitically reduce demand. Might be interesting to actually know her plan.

Realistically given current trends, the only way it'll happen (and it will be shortlived) is to release a very, very large amount of our SOR. We'll have a couple of days of low prices followed by mass hysteria and spikes in commodity trading.

Any other option is probably years in the making and wouldn't happen during her presidency. MAYBE if she got a second term.

Tess. Its impossible.

I was thinking we'd have to go heavy on alternatives while simultaneously going heavy on US drilling and production. Lowering U.S. demand, avoiding OPEC oil, and pushing the hell out of electric/carbon/NG vehicles.

HAHAHAHA ohhh Bachman saying anything to get the posse or big bad truck driving republicans hyped up now are we??

Not going to get us even close to 2 dollars a gallon, sorry.

Reminds me of a more concrete example of "Change" and "Yes We Can." It worked on Democrats to believe in it, it might work with Republicans this time around.

Could start by strengthening the dollar -- do something serious about the deficit.

Or, continue the current plan of trillion+ deficit spending and loose monetary policy until we find ourselves in the next great recession and people can't afford to drive - that would work too.

While somehow stopping all economic development in the rest of the world (without using tons of gas to fuel our military machines to do so)

You can't get gas under $2 without direct regulation. Isn't that contrary to good ol' conservative principles of free market?

Seriously... does Bachmann ever talk out of her mouth instead of her you know what?

At least those weren't concrete and clearly BS. Obama did a great job of letting people hear what they wanted to hear without actually committing to much. To make a promise that is clearly impossible...well, she's digging her own grave.

this can only happen by either:

A: invading and conquering a oil-rich state, and STEALING all of their oil.

B: heavily subsidizing fuel costs in the USA.

so either Bachmann is claiming that she will be a tyrant or a Socialist.

which..is it?

We kinda did one of those already a couple times...

if healthcare can be free, gas can certainly be $2 a gallon.

this is loony land, where we can make all kinds of promises using doublespeak.

healthcare is free for poor people in America.

now, how do you suggest we make 87 octane gasoline $2 a gallon?

Stop putting all the expensive, government mandated additives into it and stop making unleaded gasoline.

Just think of all the jobs that would be created. oh, but we can't have that...can we?

Sojust how do you think we should go about it?

Funny. Nothing is free for poor people. Its just an illusion that you can get things for free and not in the end pay for them in another areas.
