Nice propaganda piece though, as usual.
I knew a guy who got the free phone + service (because he was on food stamps, it was offered to him), while he already had a cell subscription service.
I was discovering that life just simply isn't fair and bask in the unsung glory of knowing that each obstacle overcome along the way only adds to the satisfaction in the end. Nothing great, after all, was ever accomplished by anyone sulking in his or her misery.

I just hate the red-faced tirades about things that really don't merit outrage. Armed terrorists are preventing starving people from leaving Somalia so they can eat, and this is what we're outraged about?
You must mistake us for people who give a **** about what is going on in Somalia.
"I condemn the ideology of White Supremacy and Nazism. They are thugs, criminals, and repugnant, and are against what I believe to be "The American Way" "
Thus my obligatory condemnation of White supremacy will now be in every post, lest I be accused of supporting it because I didn't mention it specifically every time I post.

What are we supposed to do exactly? Or more importantly what "I" supposed to do? To fix the problem they're having right now would take military action, and the country has no interest in Somalia.

And man I know you want to go all over this "we should do this because its humans business" but I really really don't care one bit.

    Creating rights is fun stuff.

Free cell phones for the needy drawing both cheers and jeers - Pittsburgh Tribune-Review

"Assurance Wireless, which is in 26 states and Washington, D.C., started in Pennsylvania in February and is now being publicized in newspaper, TV and radio ads.....SafeLink, which has been available to Pennsylvanians for three years, is in 39 states."

Apparently, other states have been doing this for a while. I didn't even realize it. But then again, in my home state we pay more money for our cable which was SUPPOSED to be going towards free cable for the same target population as these cell phones (however, due to our um less than trustworthy local government officials, they never saw a dime of it and the money went somewhere else. sigh).

After reading this article I can see why this would be a nice gesture, but I think people are relying on government for too many services and not willing to pay the price... We're continuing to dig ourselves in a hole and developing more unsustainable habits. I don't know the breakdown of the finances, but from the sounds of it our government is just taking on more and more responsibility that we should be taking caring of ourselves... I'm all about helping the less fortunate, but I think this is a bit of a stretch....

Outrage? I see no one rioting in the streets. People aren't allowed to have opinions on this? One opinion at a time and today is Somalia's turn?
