Rep. Broun: Lower country club membership an effect of a bad economy

A conservative member of the House warned that one consequence of the a weak economy is declining membership at country clubs.

"When someone is overextended and broke they don't continue paying for expensive automobiles, they sell the expensive automobiles and buy a cheaper one. They don't continue paying for country club dues, they drop out of the country club," Rep. Paul Broun (R-Ga.) said Wednesday on MSNBC.
    Medicare? OK.

    Social Security? OK.

WAIT!! Not the country club memberships. Anything but that!!

Clearly, this guy has no empathy with the American people, most of whom are REALLY suffering.

    Article is here.

It would be easy for me to write a joke about this, but I am going to resist the urge because I know there will be plenty of hate directed at those who belong to Country Clubs because they are perceived to be the wealthy and the class war that Liberal have been promoting will get people all pissed about the boo hoo for the rich.

I say screw that. I live in what is called a resort. It's not other than in name but there are a lot of regular people who work to keep it running from cutting the grass to cleaning the pool and the streets.

Any cut backs have to be looked at for the affect they have on the regular guy. Sadly around here a number of then seem to be illegals but that is for another thread.

Right now we don't need to fall for the Obama/Liberals without a clue class wars they are trying very hard to promote because your neighbor could lose his or her job out of it, and that hurts us all.

I'm going to guess that the thousands that are employed by country clubs all around the country don't find it funny when people dismiss this point.

It's indeed one way to measure whether people have and are spending disposible income or not. Heck, it's how I got my start in the job market. I would chase carts for $3-$5 when I was 12-13 years old. I was glad that there was people with the income to pay me.

We would ride our bikes the appx 2 miles to the country club. Stand around and hope someone would pick us. Not being old enough to caddy the best I could do is chase carts. Still 4-5 hours for a few bucks. And some want to make fun of the fact that country clubs may not be able to provide the jobs they have in the past? Talk about no empathy.

Either you are missing the point or really don't care and pick out any word and jump on it, cheap political hackery. I guess you don't think that in this economy someone can't go from doing very well and being part of a country club to be on their a**. Plus you could care less about the people who work at clubs, be it keeping the course in shape, in the restaurant or whatever.

Just makes you wonder about the cheap political discourse that permeates America today.

I have no qualms with Country Clubs. A private golf club was my father's joy in the few healthy years of his retirement he got to enjoy.

But my father never ran around as a member of a private, exclusive club and called other people "elitist"; unlike Rand Paul, who calls others elitist FROM his country club.

Again, no worries on them; but don't belong to an economically exclusive group and bitch about others being elitist. Don't live in a gated community and call others elitist. Don't fly on private jets and call others elitist. You may begin to do so when you admit that you are an elitist yourself.

Well hell's bells, Councilman. Why didn't you tell us this earlier? This new bit of information changes everything. I'm gobsmacked! (Of course, I did notice that you were able to insert one "hate", though you managed not to call everyone else a Marxist. Your formidable restraint is duly noted.)

OK, liberals, atheists, Marxists, brown skinned people, Communists, Muslims, union members, homosexuals, illegal aliens, children of illegal aliens, Democrats, teachers, black people, military men and women and their families, people on fixed incomes, working class people, most middle class people, homeless people, elitists, government workers, disabled people, Wal-Mart shoppers, people recovering from catastrophic events, immigrants and college professors - if you guys don't support tax cuts for the rich Councilman's resort may lose its pool man! And what's worse, Councilman may have Mexicans move into his resort community! I know that tops it for me. Screw the economy we have to help Councilman out and vote to support rich people.
