Profits soar amid mass layoffs

You're making excuses for the terrorists, now.

What if we had taken that attitude during WW2? "You'll just create more Nazis". Think about it.
I'm not making excuses. I'm trying to get you to realize that you do not fight terrorism using the methods that created it. There is a huge difference between fighting a nation and fighting a concept such as terrorism. You can defeat a nation. Take over and occupy a nation that is already a source of terrorist activity and you just give rise to more resentment.

No, it can't. The Patriot Act only allows the un-warranted tapping of calls to and from foreign countries. Dometic to domestic calls have to have a warrant. You might want to read it, first.

So if call my friend in England that should be tapped? Wonderful standard you have set up for the 'freest country in the world'

I am real. It's you is living in "America is awesome land." We do not have the highest upward mobility in the world. In fact France, Canada,Sweden,Germany,Norway, and Denmark all have higher upward mobility than we do. Economic mobility - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

You may want to actually read your source, before you post it.

Using the ratio of an individual’s current income to that of their parent’s, there is no academic consensus whether the United States has less or more relative mobility than other industrialized nations[1][5][6]. According to one study, the income of a person's parents is a great deal more predictive of their own income in the United States than other countries[4]. France, Germany, Sweden, Canada, Finland, Norway, and Denmark all have more relative mobility than the US, while only the United Kingdom is shown to have less mobility

Kinda like the Russians did in Afghanistan before us.

Probably not, but if you call your jihadist friend in Yemen, you might need to keep things on the down-low. Word?

If you want to go that route, then you can't say we have more here either. At best you can say we are equal, but you can't say America is better.

So, you're willing to compromise? :rofl

I was wondering if I would be accused being a Jihadist sympathizer or Muslim or something like that. Let me make this clear, I feel the same way about Islam as I do Christianity: They are both reactionary, regressive, oppressive, intolerant, full of outdated morals, and stand in the way of progress. I don't like either one. However I'm much more worried about extremist Christians in American than I am Muslims. You'd think between my two sigs and Leon Trotsky avatar I could avoid any such accusations even as a joke. Oh, and if I have a friend in Yemen I should be able to call him and say whatever I want without being tapped.

I was simply giving you an example of how the Patriot Act works. If you're offended...tough titty.

Read Charlie Wilson's War and educate yourself.

 I didn't think you had it in you in the first place to actually back your position.

I'm not offended, but it doesn't help your freedom argument any.

Norway has a very strong public sector and their unemployment rate is at 3.6%. So not only are public sector jobs sustainable they have proven to work well. It's telling that this bastion of capitalism has such a higher unemployment rate than socialist Norway.

Norway is an extremely small country. Somewhere less than 3 million in the work force. They also make a large portion of their money by off shore drilling. Something that is fought tooth and nail here. Why is it O.K. for them but not for us?

Now, this is the problem I have with the GOP.

The President proposed generating revenue by closing some tax loopholes on those businesses that either have demonstrated their ability to make a profit WITHOUT generous tax breaks or indicated they weren't using the tax breaks available to them, i.e., purchasing private jets. And what did the GOP do? They bulked!

This is the problem I have with this arguement. What is a "loophole" what exactly are we closing? Exactly. Not some vague "loophole" that no one even knows what it means and how much are we talking about by closing these what seem to be mythical "loopholes"?

As far as the rest of the arguements here, we are going to have to cut everything and that includes the military. I agree with pulling out of many of the countries we are in. Let's be clear though as to why we have some of these high tech military devices. It's because it's how politicians bring home the bacon. The problem is less the high tech equipment than nobody being held accountable for over runs and waste.

Another thing missed is that we have historically had a strong military so other countries don't have to. Our strong military is part of the reason why Pakistan and India don't start a war with each other. It's in part why Israel isn't a parking lot. There are many eastern European countries today with more freedom than they recently had because of our military build up.

But yes, cuts are needed and will have to be made. I am of the thought that huge strides could come by simply making those in charge responsible for how things are spent. As noted, there are billions missing from the military. Heads should roll over that. Jobs should be lost. Criminal proceedings might even be necessary.

As far as other countries go, I'm sure there are billions of people perfectly happy where they are at in the world so the rest is nothing but a pissing match.

Yes this is true, and it is yet another problem we the people need tor rectify. Fixing the illegal problem I assure you will not run off business like over regulating and a heavy tax burden would.
i don't know there delta i've heard many times if businesses had to pay a "living wage" prices would go up which would open the door to company's that could pay a fair wage and still keep prices low. so those old ones would go away.
