Profits soar amid mass layoffs

When you wake up tomorrow in the freest nation in the world, you'll see the return on the investment.

You're welcome.
Really? freest(is that word or should it be most free?) nation in the world? The MIC hasn't freed us. We are less free than many European nations. Does the Patriot Act ring any bells?

There's no way we can cut military spending by half. It's totally unrealistic.

1. Get rid of at least half of our aircraft carriers, and a similar number of other ships.
2. Get rid of all our strategic bombers.
3. Get rid of the majority of our tanks and heavy combat vehicles.
4. Get rid of all our nuclear bombs and land based ICBM's, and around half of our sea based ones.
5. Kill the Joint Strike Fighter project, and majorly cut the size of our airforce. Phase out the older planes.
6. Cut the size of our army. Increase the size of our special forces to compensate.
7. Get rid of nearly all oversea military bases. Keep a couple in Japan and South Korea, and also in the Middle East.
8. Have a general redesign of weapons to make things more cost effective.

There you go. I just shaved at least half off the military budget, and probably a good deal more.

I feel that the best defense, is a good offense. History has proven me correct.

As far as spending money such as Blackwater, yes, I think the military should have some fat trimmed off of it. However, when the Pentagon starts trimming fat, it's the enlisted man that gets cut the deepest and that's why I think that military cuts should be as shallow as possible. Everytime we've cut our military down to a skeleton crew, it's come back to haunt us.

Who, precisely, should we be going on the offensive with?

Yes I know the debt racked up will still be there tomorrow and years to come.

But, you're freedom and liberty will never go away, unless you and the rest of the Libbos have your way.

yes, I do believe it is a word.

You can't even fart too loud in Europe without breaking the law. So, no, they're not more free than we are.

Does the word, "deterrent", mean anything?

The Islamofacists, for starters; and anyone else that wants to start ****.

Don't ever think that geography is going to protect us 100%.

"Libbos" :yawn:

feeble intellectually sophomoric attempt at insult.

grow up dude.

Aside from American Exceptionalism do you have any evidence that we are any more free than most of Europe? I would argue we are lose free. We have the Patriot Act which pretty much shreds the 4th amendment, we have the war on drugs,we have the highest incarnation rate in the world. 5% of the worlds population lives in the U.S. yet a quarter of the world's prisoners are in U.S. prisons.(United States incarceration rate - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) So how are we the most free nation on earth?

hell yeah! I can own land; guns; hunt and fish like I want; drive whatever vehicle I want--for now; work where i want; start my own business; I'm not bound by a class system. The list goes on.

Those clowns that are prison, are in prison by their own choice. That's a piss poor example of how we're not free.

If I bash you over the head with a baseball bat and you die, are you any less dead than if I fire 500 rounds from a .50 caliber machine gun? If I hit your country with 50 nuclear missiles, is it any less obliterated than if I hit it with 1000 nuclear missiles? Think about it.

You're right! I can smoke weed if I want, or go to a prostitute, or get married to someone of the same sex, or fly without being hassled by the government, and there's absolutely no danger of my phone conversations being randomly wiretapped.

Uh huh. And is the correct way to do that to invade the **** out of their country with tanks and bombers and ****?

You can own land in Europe, you can own guns in many countries, you can hunt and fish, you can drive a car, you can work where you want and start your own business. Yes, you are bound by a class system. It isn't instituted by law,but it's there and most European nations have much more upward mobility than we do.

Speaking of being free a lot of those "clowns" in prison are there becuase they smoked weed, something you can do in Europe, but not here. So who is more free again? Oh and you still haven't addressed the Patriot Act.

Actually some of his points are valid. Why do we need strategic bombers anymore?

And we don't have land based ICBMs for the most part. Those don't make sense anymore. Basically one OHIO class has enough power to decimate any nation on the planet. Furthermore, non-state actors are not afraid of nukes in the same way nations are.

He's wrong on the JSF though as we do need to replace fighters. But the overruns are outrageous. Cost plus is evil.

And cutting down on bases would save money and earn alot of good will.

His last point is dead on the money. Gates was pushing just that.

The Right thinks so,but they fail to realize they are just creating more terrorists. Terrorism is a reaction to imperialism, religion is just a way to motivate the masses and justify it.

Actually all it takes apparently to cause a nuclear winter strong enough to wipe out virtually all life on the planet is something like 50 to 75 large megaton warheads in the atmosphere. We don't even need to hit them to wipe them out.

Two points I want to make on the JSF project. First, the kind of opponent we're most likely to be fighting are tin-pot dictators using 60's era MiG's. You don't need a fifth generation fighter to deal with that kind of threat. Second, on the off chance that we do go up against someone with something a little more modern, we still have over a hundred F-22's. No one has anything that can compare with F-22's. They're actually superior to the F-35. That's why I'd say the JSF is pretty much redundant, and the price tag on it is just ridiculous.

1. Get rid of at least half of our aircraft carriers, and a similar number of other ships.

Considering the maintence downtime on carriers, the MOST we can get rid of is 2.

2. Get rid of all our strategic bombers.

This I agree. Aside from the B-2s. We really don't need B-52s anymore. Unless it's Megafotress style. That I would be okay with.

5. Kill the Joint Strike Fighter project, and majorly cut the size of our airforce. Phase out the older planes.

You do know that some of the harriers, F-16s F-18s and F-15s are going on 30 years? It's really time to replace them.

No, I'll be just as dead. But, the part you're missing, is that if I have a fifty-cal, you won't hit me with the baseball bat.

By the same token, if I have 100 nuke, you won't hit me with your 1,000 nukes, because you know you can't get them all and that I will destroy you, too. It's called, MAD: Mutual Assured Destruction. Think about it.

Is that how you define, "freedom"?

You gotta remember that the F-22 is far more of an air superority fighters. The JSF fills in everything from support air superiority to ground support. It's quite a verstile fighters replacing everything from the A-10 to the Harrier. Whle I agree that the cost is getting ridiculous, I don't see a better replacement considering some of our fighters are older then their pilots.

Absolutely goddamn ****ing right!

If they don't like it, they should just not **** with us and it won't happen.

I don't even get the point of having anything over a megaton. The 15 kiloton bomb dropped on Hiroshima was enough to mostly destroy a small city, and the Ohio class carries 415 kiloton warheads. That's plenty to glass a city the size of New York or London. Anything bigger than that is just saber rattling.
