LulzSec hacked the website for The Sun and posted a fake article that Rupert Murdoch had died. Anon has also hacked the website for The Times.

Is this vigilante justice justified? I think so. My approval of Anon and LulzSec are back up a bit.

Anonymous doesn't need justification for whatever it is they do. They just **** **** up. That's who they are.
 
Justified? No. They've committed a serious crime.

Is this some sort of threat? I'm not bothered by it at all, I'm simply trying to understand your post as it doesn't seem to actually respond to anything I've posted.

Most of them are just script kiddies who think they are cool hackers, but they are not. At the last company I worked for, one script kiddie kept trying to get into our network. I let him into a safe place in one of our systems, managed to obtain his IP address, send him a trojan, broke into his system, then sent him a little present, and a registry startup entry for it, designed to flash his BIOS the next time he started up. The BIOS was flashed with information on a different hard drive than what he had, which would cause the drive spin too fast the second time he restarted his computer, thus burning it out. Guess what? After a couple of more days of lame attempts to get into our system, I never heard back from him again. Gee, I wonder what happened to him? I bet mommy and daddy were really pissed too. LOL.

That's been my experience with them too...
 
Vigilantism (?) is a very difficult problem.

On one hand, these are people who are basically undermining our laws and our society, because they believe that our society is incabable of solving certain problems they see; Sometimes the law and society might even be that problem.
On the other hand, we even declare vigilantes as national heroes when we find them to fight a society and a law that we despise.

Approving of vigilantes for one cause should imply approving of them in general; That however is an idea I find highly objectionable.

Of course, we can always say that "fighting for human rights is ok!". But what are human rights? I don't believe in any "inherent" human rights. I do believe that certain things make life easier, more enjoyable, safer, ...; However that's only me.
It should be noted that the EDHR claims its universality. Based on that claim, a decision for vigilantism (?) in this matter would still require some thinking. It should not be hard to find human rights violations committed by the Murdoch-Network. However, vigilantism for whistleblowers would not be acceptable; As article 10 clearly states "The exercise of these freedoms [...] may be subject to such [...] restrictions [...] in the interests of [...] preventing the disclosure of information received in confidence".

However, I personally find this particular part of the EDHR quite undue; I don't think the right of expression should be infringed other than "for the protection of the reputation or rights of others".
