Poll: Debt ceiling deal should include cuts and tax increases

Most of those below the poverty line in this country would be considered very well off in many others. Most below the poverty line here have a house full of electronic gadgets including cable tv, cell phones, and internet service.

yesterday: dept of energy survey based on census data

What is poverty? Americans might well be surprised to learn from other government data that the overwhelming majority of those defined as “poor” by the Census Bureau were well-housed and adequately fed even in the recession year 2009. About 4 percent of them did temporarily become homeless.

Data from the Department of Energy and other agencies show that the average poor family, as defined by Census officials:

Lives in a home that is in good repair, not crowded, and equipped with air conditioning, clothes washer and dryer, and cable or satellite TV service.

Prepares meals in a kitchen with a refrigerator, coffee maker and microwave as well as oven and stove.

Enjoys two color TVs, a DVD player, VCR and — if children are there — an Xbox, PlayStation, or other video game system.

Had enough money in the past year to meet essential needs, including adequate food and medical care.

Modern Poverty Includes A.C. and an Xbox - By Ken McIntyre - The Corner - National Review Online

some notes:

98% of americans below the poverty line have a tv, 81% have a microwave, 78% air conditioning, 71% a vcr, 65% a second tv, 65% a dvd, 64% cable, 62% washer, 60% cordless phone, 55% cellphone, 53% ceiling fan...

less than 50%---personal computer 38%, third tv 32%, internet 29%, video game system 29%, printer 28%, 2nd vcr 28%, dishwasher 25%, big screen tv 18%

They will pay their taxes too.

So, it's not really taxes on the rich. It's taxes on people that you think make more money than they should.

How much was your tax bill for 2010?

So now you're changing your whine from non-profits tax exempt status to what those non-profits spend their money on. And the 1st amend most certainly does protect religious orgs from being taxed.

Oh really? Where does it say that?

No, it's taxes on income above a certain amount.

No, it's taxes on income above a certain amount.

And, that certain amount is $200,000. All we hear from the Libbos is raising taxes on the, "millionaires and billionaires". Last time I checked, a person that makes 200 grand isn't a, "millionaire", or a, "billionaire".

How much money do you make? Will your taxes go up?

And the dems in Congress cut taxes.

they sure did

just about a month after tsunami tuesday, the day the gop won more house seats than any party since 1938, the most state reps and assemblies in history, 10 gubs and 6 senators

i wonder how that happened

Maybe you forgot about that

LOL!

So much for the rights support of the first amendment

tax breaks---subsidies---for cair, media matters and pp...

free speech, baby!

LOL!

People with incomes far less that 200k pay income taxes. And you never heard me say that we should raise taxes on millionaires and billionaires.

It's one sentence long. Can't you read it yourself?

I have read it. No where does it say that religious groups are tax exempt.

It sure as hell doesn't say that Media Matters should be tax exempt.

It's not my fault you don't understand what the 1st Amend means

It's not my fault you don't understand what the 1st Amend means

So, "Freedom of Religion", means that religious orgs and Media Matters don't have to pay taxes?

Why do you want to know?

Just wondering if your taxes are going up with the tax hikes that you insist we have, or are you just talking about other peoples's money?
