Cain: Tenn. Mosque Infringes on Religious Freedom

I have no idea what Cain meant, but I think one could make an argument that when people use freedom of religion to justify teaching hate, violence, etc., it is an abuse of the right..

and without evidence that a specific religious congregation being organized will indeed espouse racism, hatred, and bigotry, we have NO RIGHT to assume so just cause' they are Muslim.

This is America. We believe in religious freedom. Don't like it? Try Iran, North Korea, or China.

Advocates of closing all mosques in America appear to be thoughtful, well intentioned people. I identify with them.

Well of course you do.

You advocate that we should have a modern day crusade against Muslims to satisfy our own blood lust.

Colour me shocked you support such rhetoric

Living in Nashville, I really don't care if this mosque gets put up. It would be a travesty to religious freedom if it's not allowed to go up. The court has already ruled that it's legal for them to do this.

*ahermmm* citation please.

El Cid - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

El Cid went on to command a Moorish force consisting of Muladis, Berbers, Arabs and Malians, under Yusuf al-Mu'taman ibn Hud, Moorish king of the northeast Al-Andalus city of Zaragoza, and his successor, Al-Mustain II.

It doesn't say anything about his personal religion, but he seems to have at least fought on the side of Muslims.

it said he lead a combined christian and moorish army...where does it say his religion?

As I said, it doesn't say anything about his personal religion, but he did fight on the same side as Moors.

from the Encyclopedia Britannica online

Service to the Muslims

The Cid in exile offered his services to the Muslim dynasty that ruled Zaragoza and with which he had first made contact in 1065. The king of Zaragoza, in northeastern Spain, al-Muʿtamin, welcomed the chance of having his vulnerable kingdom defended by so prestigious a Christian warrior. The Cid now loyally served al-Muʿtamin and his successor, al-Mustaʿīn II, for nearly a decade. As a result of his experience he gained that understanding of the complexities of Hispano-Arabic politics and of Islamic law and custom that would later help him to conquer and hold Valencia. Meanwhile, he steadily added to his reputation as a general who had never been defeated in battle. In 1082, on behalf of al-Muʿtamin, he inflicted a decisive defeat on the Moorish king of Lérida and the latter’s Christian allies, among them the count of Barcelona. In 1084 he defeated a large Christian army under King Sancho Ramírez of Aragon. He was richly rewarded for these victories by his grateful Muslim masters.

That doesn't make him a muslim! You said he was, but thats false and a misrepresentation. He has a christian name, and fought with castille before Alfonso took the throne, and no one even knows the full story there, except that he still remained really popular in all of spain.

Where did I ever say he was a Muslim? Try reading.

Don't play that game. I quoted Hatuey, who claimed the El Cid is a muslim, and then you rush to his defense, and now you say no one said he was a muslim? try reading.

He spent most of his career leading Christian armies against the Moors... As far as I know, he was a Catholic... He was an important figure in the early part of the Reconquista...

good to see we got some logical, reasonable folks, in the Bible-Belt.

You came up with a citation in response to a request for one where Hatuey made the claim that he was Muslim.

Of course, once again Hatuey cuts and runs when he is called on his mistakes, but we expect that from him...

El Cid was a Christian, not a Muslim... something confirmed by haymarket's link as well as this

He spent most of his life fighting for Catholic kingdoms, not Muslim...

digsbe is originally from Maryland, where we have sensible folks.

too bad gay marriage didn't pass this year though.

I've been in Maryland a few times. Seems like they got Southern hospitality mixed with Northeastern sensibility..for the most part.

:)

North Dakota has the first documented Mosque in North America. Suck it! :D

the guy is clearly nuts.

He can be cool though. He looks like a vaguely homosexual Mace Windu.

ugh. Cain wishes he was that cool.

allow this comparison lightly, the council does not.

Anyone want to explain how Sharia Law itself isn't ALREADY unconstitutional?

1. Cain is a fool and digging himself deeper
2. What in the world makes you think that just because something is unconstitutional, that our noble philosopher-kings will not put it into law?
