Cain: Tenn. Mosque Infringes on Religious Freedom

RCC churches are under the direct control and supervision of the Vatican in Rome. And the Vatican is a soverign state, with its own foreign policy. And billions of dollars in property and investments.

does this trouble you....aswell?

No, but I would if they wanted to change our laws.

Anyone want to explain how Sharia Law itself isn't ALREADY unconstitutional?

Or are we going to see more stupid, Constitutionally illiterate partisan hack talking points?

I want a president who will be on the look-out for the infiltration of sharia law.
I also have no problem with asking plenty of questions before Mega Mosques are allowed to be built. ]

Fine. We'll ask plenty of questions about mega-churches too.

The point is -- THIS IS A FIRST AMENDMENT RIGHT to worship as you please. I thought Republicans loved the Constitution. What do you just skip over the First Amendment on your way to the Second?

yeah, up until it protects religions or political speech that they don't like.

once that happens, the Bill of Rights is just Liberal, Commy, criminal-loving jibber-jabber.

....except for the 2nd Amendment, of course. But then someday they will want to suspend that too, for Muslims, Liberals, gays, etc etc..

They do want to change our laws. You don't think Christians try to get their religious views encoded in US law?

Catholics and Evangelicals do indeed try to infuence legislation based on their religious beliefs.

They claim such ALLL the time.

We are only obligated to follow him in religious and moral matters, not political.

And yet, all this effort to enshrine religious beliefs into law.

oh, so Catholics can support abortion rights? gay marriage?

is this why the Diocese of Brooklyn has ordered all Catholics to return any gifts or awards given by Governor Cuomo, since he signed same-sex marriage into law?

But religious and moral matters often collide with politics. We have centuries of written works by Christians trying to grapple with the perhaps conflicting responsibilities of Christian belief and Giving unto Caesar.

Bishop Guido thinks you oughta return that. It would be unfortunate if you were to go to Hell.

Herman Cain: Tennessee Mosque 'Is an Infringement and an Abuse of Our Freedom of Religion'

People worshipping the God of their choice is such an infringement of religious freedom.
I have no idea what Cain meant, but I think one could make an argument that when people use freedom of religion to justify teaching hate, violence, etc., it is an abuse of the right. Just like Westboro Baptist protesting at funerals is an abuse of the freedom of speech.

Not saying that is what any particular Mosque is doing. In fact, I usually err on the side of thinking Cain's type of outrage is ignorant and borderline racist. Just saying.

Many Catholics DO support those things on a political basis.

I am a Catholic, so of course my religious beliefs are going to influence the positions I support politically. However, the pope does not tell me who to vote for, nor would I vote for someone simply because he or another official told me to do so -- and it has never happened. Yes, my anti-abortion position is informed by my belief as a Catholic, and thus I oppose the murder of the unborn. However, in terms of political matters, I am not obligated to abide by what the Church tells me to do.

The vast majority of Sharia law regulates a Muslims private life, praying 5 times a day, eating halal, no piggy, jet settin' of to Mecca etc. It's only a small portion that would be unconstitutional.

Yeah, like the stoning for changing religions and things like that...

Replace Catholic in every instance with Muslim.

Starting to get why people are upset with Cain?

Nothing like the joy, of pointing out mistakes to a grammer nazi.

An abuse, sure. That doesn't change their right, just like it doesn't change Westboro's right to protest at every funeral they want to (I think they're world-class douchebags, but they have that right).

Or to, say, build a mosque church.

Yeah, all that stuff would never leave the ground in America, so all this fretting about Sharia Law is pretty pointless, a small minority cannot change the constitution.
