Obama’s Popularity in Arab World Now Lower than Bush’s

James Zogby, the anti-Israel pollster who released these findings today, blames the drop in support for Obama in the Arab world on Obama’s failure to put the amount of pressure on Israel the Arab world wanted and expected. But according to the poll, the Arab world doesn’t seem to be happy with any of America’s foreign policy positions. Respondents rated Obama’s policies as the least popular, when compared with other leaders, including Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Killing Osama bin Laden also contributed to the Arab world’s negative views of Obama. In all six countries surveyed – Egypt, Morocco, Lebanon, Jordan, the UAE and Saudi Arabia – the majority of respondents said killing bin Laden made them “less favorable toward the U.S.” Notably, in Egypt, only 2 percent said the al Qaeda leader’s death made them view America more positively.

Obama

Now, if GWB were President, we'd all hear about how killing OBL was a great recruiting tool for AQ, and other such nonsense.

But The Obama? He's got that big (D) shield next to his name.

I highly doubt that.

Hypothetical hypocrisy is just about the dumbest basis for an argument I've ever seen.

I thought Obama was a secret Muslim tyrant bent on the destruction of Israel?

Besides all that, Deuce, how does an Isreali pollster rate the views of its enemy pertaining to a nation that has sworn to remain allied with them in their defense? For those who buy this garbage, think about it...think about it long and hard....

Wow color me shocked an American President is unpopular in the Middle East. Also your source has this to say about his unpopularity "James Zogby, the anti-Israel pollster who released these findings today, blames the drop in support for Obama in the Arab world on Obama’s failure to put the amount of pressure on Israel the Arab world wanted and expected. But according to the poll, the Arab world doesn’t seem to be happy with any of America’s foreign policy positions."

So what should he do? Criticize Israel more? Somehow I doubt that would make you happy. Maybe he should change US policy in the Middle East, its basically been an extension of the Bush policy since Obama took office, you'd be hard pressed to find something which meaningfully changed. So what exactly do you want him to do?

... Obama bad!

Wow...this guy just can't win, can he?

First, it's "You're a Muslim-loving terrorist supporter and hate Israel!"

Then, we find out the Muslims don't like him no mo and didn't like the fact that he killed OBL.

"Man, if he were Bush he'd be hammered for this!!"

I think these findings prove that, despite our natural intuition that people all over the world would LOVE it when their countries are bombed and invaded by foreigners, Arabs actually DON'T like that! And apparently they also don't like it when we offer unconditional support to the country they perceive as the greatest threat to them. What a shock!

I agree, we should stay out of the middle east and let the dictators keep on dictating. The Arabs actually seem to like being treated like subjects rather than citizens. Its been working that way for thousands of years, right? Hey, if brutality is an effect of living in that type of society then so be it I guess. Then deal with it Arabs, right? As far as Israel goes, then stay out of their business too. You can't have it both ways.

And this children is a perfect example as to why nobody from the right wing should be allowed into foreign policy discussions.

And to think of all the libs that said electing Obama would improve our image around the world..........

Umm have you looked at the Arab world lately? There are massive protests against (mostly US-backed) dictators in virtually every Arab state.

Its been working that way for thousands of years, right? Hey, if brutality is an effect of living in that type of society then so be it I guess.

I assume this is supposed to be sarcastic, like we can't stand idly by. How about the brutality of occupying their countries, bombing them from above, and propping up their dictators? If we as a society legitimately care about the brutality that Arabs suffer, we can start by ending the brutality that we inflict on them ourselves (and therefore that we have some control over), rather than the brutality that we can't control.

Then deal with it Arabs, right? As far as Israel goes, then stay out of their business too. You can't have it both ways.

Sure, as long as "staying out of their business" entails a neutral stance on the Middle East conflict and ceasing to sell Israel weapons at discounted prices that we don't sell to Arab states. I think that stance would be agreeable to most Arabs as well.

The Arab world is "around the world"?

Someone needs a lesson in geography. Hint: FoxNews is not the place to learn about geography

is anyone really surprised at this?

if the US is going to send their armies around the world spreading freedom and democracy when it suits, obviously not everyone is going to be jumping around for joy. how many people have died in iraq over a trumped-up war? where is the humility? where is the apology? where is the accountability? there is none in the US because some people continue to wear the colours of the flag in their hearts and minds without actually seeing what that really means. they are so quick to get their panties in a bunch when any criticism regarding US Foreign Policy is made.

it's about accepting the fact that of the unnecessary evil that exists in this world, sometimes America contributes to it. for the last 10 years Bin Laden has been the symbol of evil in America. don't some of you guys recognize that the US flag is that same symbol to many people around the world? feel free to brush it off as you can't please everyone or we try our best but we can't make everyone happy. that just continues to show how oblivious some of the American public are to the actions committed by the current and past governments. that is what is truly sad.

Oddly enough, Obama seems to be losing power, so to speak, about as quickly as an airplane when its engines have been damaged and cut out with a speedy descent, which results in a crashing boom, bang, boink in the end.

And this children is a perfect example as to why nobody from the right wing should be allowed into foreign policy discussions.

And Democrats have mounted such effective campaigns for world peace, haven't they? Which do you like best, that of LBJ, Jimmy Carter, Clinton, or now Obama? It seems Harry Truman's worked best.

Is this why many liberals hate America?

An excellent example of irony. Well done! Keep up the good work!

The people in this poll rated Iran's President Ahmadinejad's policies higher than Obama's - if that tells you anything. Also, if "not putting enough pressure on Israel" is top on the list, then that list is obviously not very well though out. I could see if they said they did not like how he reacted to the riots in the Middle East, authorizing the strike on OBL without letting Pakistan know first, or the continued act of extraordinary rendition. However, it seems to me that this poll is probably akin to going to Redneckville, Alabama and asking what people's opinions are of Obama.

Yeah...it tells me that the US policy in the Middle East is horrible.

Why not? Many Arabs perceive Israel as their biggest enemy. How is that any different than Americans complaining about China not putting enough pressure on North Korea, for example?

This survey was across several Arab nations, not some isolated backwater community. The fact that they dislike our government doesn't make them rednecks or ignorant. Perhaps the people who actually have to live with the US policy toward Middle Eastern nations might have some legitimate grievances with our government.

Apparently he hoped ... and then changed.
