Ten year old lost boy killed & dismembered by man he asked for help

I was 9 years old in 1985. crime in NYC was rampant. our murder rate was more than double what it is today. and I grew up in a relatively high-crime area, with lots of public housing.

it's likely i wouldn't have allowed my kids to walk home, although there seem to be more crimes against children now than there used to be.

Many times, such prisoners are offered protection from other inmates. Otherwise, I'd agree.

Only if they survive the first attack by a fellow prisoner. I can think of quite a few examples in the UK - Ian Huntely (Soham murderer), Peter Sutcliffe (Yorkshire Ripper) etc. Some have died from their attacks but not all attacks have been to kill - more to instill fear.

I personally don't think a lifetime wondering where the next attack will come from is the easy option.

That neighborhood is very safe. They barely have any crime at all. The parents are going to blame themselves enough for a long time to come, but the truth is this was just a tragic twist of fate. He had a 1 in 100'000 chance of crossing the path of a sick POS like that in that neighborhood and got unlucky.

Maybe it was, but an 8 year old needs to be supervised.

now? perhaps.

btw, check out this video. its very touching:

‪An amazing act of solidarity in a time of grief...WE REMEMBER LEIBY‬‏ - YouTube

this story is gonna hurt for a while. my heart still aches for this poor boy, and I feel like crying over this story almost daily. I know a girl who lives two blocks away from where they found the killer, and she has become very depressed over the whole thing.

:(

8 year olds definitely need to be supervised. I can't imagine letting my 8 year old walk around where I live unsupervised and it's not nearly as big as New York. I'm shocked that so many people think it's ok to let their 8 year old kid walk home through a big city unsupervised.

Borough Park Brooklyn, ain't Time Square. folks have no idea how socio-economically and geographically diverse NYC is.

I lived in small towns with low crime rates, and I still wouldn't let my kids walk home without me. Times have changed, and society is remarkably tolerant of people who commit sex crimes against children. There are states which put people in prison longer for marijuana related crimes than child abuse.

Aron is Orthodox, but not a Hasid. He does not live in Borough Park and is clearly not part of tha community. He used to live in Tennessee, worked as a security guard, and was married to some hillbilly.

I bet he did and is ashamed to admit it. But not ashamed to admit that he killed this little boy. That screams religious guilt in a sick mind to me. Also I am not buying his story about the wedding and all that either. Something is not right with this and he is still lying about stuff but admits to other stuff.

And of course he is mentally ill as normal people do not do things like this but as much as I am behind the rights of the mentally ill? In cases like this it does not sit well with me. I wish this man nothing but death. I do not give a **** that he is mentally ill. You had enough of a mind to pick this little boy up, cut him up and leave his feet in your fridge then you have enough of a mind to understand you are about to DIE sick ****er!

I also think this case is proof you are not safe anywhere. Ever. At. All.

The one silver lining of this whole incident is that it was surveillance cameras that caught him and put him away before he could harm another kid.

People are worst than animals.

Why do some place them above. I dunno, especially looking at some of the terrorism in this thread. Except, it's worse than terrorism. At least terrorism has a political goal. Some people want to torture, rape and terrify people for an entire lifetime just to punish.

I definitely want to see people who hurt kids get what they deserve- which does include some type of torture. No other type of punishment seems to account for what they've done. It's like "balancing the books."

Do you think it is reasonable for someone to hold such a position while declaring that torturing known mass-murderers for verifable and pertinent information is wrong?

People should know that torturous crimes against children is going to bring a wrath of hell onto them. Just as I know if I kick a Hell's Angel's bike over I am pretty certain I am going to get a curb sandwich. Thus I don't screw with the Hell's Angels.

Harming a kid to that extent is like sticking your head into a hornet's nest. That is just the way it is.

This is absolutely terrible.....That man needs to pay.

Give him life. They don't take well to child molesters in jail.

Nobody said the child was molested. Nobody was ever convicted of molestation. They were convicted of murder.

Why are child murderers assumed to be child rapists? The connection isn't logical.

The salient point is that child killers and child molesters suffer the same fate in prison.

Not so sure about that...

A couple of years ago, this group of teens around my home-town area broke into a house, forced the resident kid to commit incestuous acts on his mother, and then poured bleach into both of their eyes. Why?
