Rep. Ryan wants to cut the benefits of future seniors, but he caught helping to consume not one but two bottles of $350 Jayer-Gilles 2004 Echezeaux Grand Cru wine.

Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), a leading advocate of shrinking entitlement spending and the architect of the plan to privatize Medicare, spent Wednesday evening sipping $350 wine with two like-minded conservative economists at the swanky Capitol Hill eatery Bistro Bis.

Ahh a hypocrite caught "red" handed... got to love it.

Funny how "men of the people" suddenly become rich snobs when they go to Washington... wonder where they get the money... no wait!

That stuff is not worth a penny over $195.00. He needs to shop at Costco.

Who picked up the tab?

And, fwiw, you will always pay much more for alcohol from a restaurant or bar than you will buying it from the store.

And, fwiw, don't buy wine by the glass in a restaurant. Unless they are a wine bar with nitrogen system, many restaurants will continue to serve wine from a bottle that was opened the day before, (or even longer in some instances.)

GEESH he looks like a 40 yr. old Eddie Munster who just got busted for being a bad bad boy. When will these idiots realize that with all the technology out there.. that there is no privacy & you need to watch what you do. Also I like the way that he claims he had no idea that a bottle is soo pricey there. These RWer's come off as terrible 2's.

This seems like a silly thing to bitch about Rep Ryan over. Especially if he paid for it himself.

You mean as silly as Michele Obama eating a burger or the Obama's going out to a romantic dinner in New York? Of course it is silly, but that is how low politics have gotten in the US... not to mention there is a difference... Sure Michele is leading the charge for healthy eating, and then she eats a burger.. so what.. the burger cost like a buck. Sure the Obama's are suppose to be the "leading light" of the nation, but as long as they use their own money for their romantic dinners and dont go around demanding that the American people cut food budgets and not going out and so on... the I have no problem with them going out and even spending 400 dollars on a bottle of wine!. The Obama's are not part of the party of supposed fiscal responsibility and leading the discussion on gutting government spending for the least well off while lowering taxes on the rich and corporations... Ryan is.... so yes he is a grade 1 hypocrite even if he paid for it himself. Fiscal responsibility starts with personal responsibility, and blowing a few weeks food allowance for a poor family on a bottle of wine is disgusting to say the least considering who is doing it. It reminds me of Marie Antoinette... "let them eat cake"...

Other people being an idiot is not an excuse to be an idiot.

From the link.

In further explaining his side of the story, Ryan said he only had one glass of wine out of the two bottles but decided when it came time to pay the bill that he should pay for one of the bottles of wine out of an abundance of caution. He even produced the receipt for the meal, which you can view here. The receipt shows a charge to Ryan's credit card for $472 -- $392 for his meal and the bottle of wine and a generous $80 tip.

I'm sure the waiter/waitress wasn't pissed.

Why is this news?

It's class warfare masturbation. Of course, Ryan is on the "wrong" side, so his enjoying good things in life is "hypocritical", if Ryan were a Democrat this thread would never have been posted.

this is as ****ing retarded to make an issue as the wagu beef things, and at least in that instance it was on tax payer dime. The only good these kinds of stories do is to highlight who the uber hyper partisans are whose political view is more like a religion theyre zealously following

Likewise.. if this were Michelle Obama, you'd be at the frontline of people complaining that she's elitist.

Maybe we need to get rid of the idea of class warefare.... & that all democrats are socialist! I have no problem with some living the good life.. I for one have enjoyed (in the past) living at a higher level. Problem is when some folks want it with the lower classes supporting them. Work hard & do it on your own & respect/support that. However when you read ryan's budget plan I not really happy with who is really paying for the bottle of wine.

Uhh, he bought a thing with his own money. I'm having trouble figuring out how this is relevant to anything... at all.

News flash: Harry Reid purchased a car. Just another example of wasteful government pork!

Wait! Don't tell me....you think there is something wrong with drinking an expensive wine. Am I right? Did I guess it?
Was this privately paid for? Or was this taxpayer dollars? If privately paid for then why does anyone think this is anyone's business but Ryan's?

Awesome story. "Susan Feinberg, an associate business professor at Rutgers, and all around busy-body..."
What a piece of trash she is. She gets a bit drunk, creates a scene and becomes a liberal sensation on a show no one even watches.

Liberals really are amazing, complicated, animals, aren't they?

Who in the hell pays $350 for a bottle of wine which basically you are just renting for maybe an hour then pissing down the urinal.

Fiscal conservative my arse.

Really? Why pay 20 dollars a bottle when one can find a similarly-sized bottle for less than five?

I don't like Paul Ryan but I really, really don't give a **** about this.
