Study: US Seventh Most Innovative Country In The World

Strange isn't it that the country that prides itself in it's capitalism, it isn't number one in innovation. Calling John Galt, Calling John Galt!!

The Global Innovation Index, published by the international business school INSEAD, rates the United States behind Switzerland (first place,) Sweden, Singapore, Hong Kong, Finland and Denmark.

Dont worry, the right will dismiss this study as being some "foreign" anti-US biased terrorist supporting commie gay Muslim conspiracy.

In reality it is not that surprising. For innovation to thrive, you need competition and in the US there is a lack of competition in quite a few key industries... telecommunications/internet, big pharma and more. The places ahead of the US all have as far as I can see, very open economies where the only barriers of entry is financial.

All of the countries ahead of us are very business friendly. Even Denmark and Sweden are very welcoming to business.

From a welfare perspective, but when it comes to business regulation, they are very capitalistic.

It's not welfare, it's democratic socialism, which means the have a strong safety net. They can innovate without fear of not having health care and not losing their life's savings. Very few of the people are poverty stricken whereas in this country poverty is all too pervasive.

In addition to sound tax policies and a healthy environment for small businesses, policymakers believe that innovations in science and technology and their successful commercialization is crucial to driving economic growth.
That's the opposite of socialist. Silly goose.

It's not uncommon for other countries to do what we do, better. But we're also so far ahead, they have a long way to catch up and should be innovating faster in that context. Look at Japan, we taught them how to do improve their mfg., they took it, and did it better than us, then turned around and taught us. Freedom, prosperity, glorious.

So can we, dont' be absurd. My wife worked a full-time job and we lived off her salary, while I started a business and knew the worst that would happen would be it failed and I had to go back and get a job. Know how much that cost taxypayers? We waited until things settled down to have kids. Worked like a charm.

Using overseas relationships to get cheaper manufacturing is innovative.
