Bachmann pledges to ban pornography

planning on banning porno will lose her the California vote.

as well as all men between the ages of 14 and 65.

And what about women? Geesh - I like it, too.

"I want my candidacy for the presidency to stand for the moment when "we the people" reclaimed our independence from a government that has gotten too big, spends too much and has taken away too much of our liberty."

- Michele Bachmann's presidential campaign launch

This is my problem with conservatives. They say they're for less government involvement, but they're really just for less government involvement in areas they don't like.

And the Liberals like MORE government involvement in ALL the areas that they just not only LIKE, but they ADORE.

Well, then Mrs President needs to control more of her portion size becasue she sure as hell ain't skinny.. :)

Tim-

I see you've noticed her big butt. :)

Less government for business' while they define who & what "we the people" should think & do!

That ignores my point entirely, whether your generalization is accurate or inaccurate. The philosophy of liberals is not inherently dishonest or hypocritical; they are up front about believing that they think the government can and should provide certain services for its citizens. The philosophy of many conservatives (such as Bachmann, or our previous POTUS, George W. Bush) IS disingenuous. Bachmann claims that any action by government is an intrusion on our freedoms..........and then she signs a pledge that wants to somehow control pornography, of all the things unimportant things one could target.

no, it says protecting women & children from porn.

Actually it does not. Look at the list, notice they all hold something in common. It's talking about being in porn, and it is talking about with that point, children.

What is hilarious is that as vile as this document is, the one that got people up in arms...porn. This is a document which claims that marriage is a great thing and should be encouraged, except for a certain group of people who are bad. This is a document which calls homosexuality a form of promiscuity. This is a document which puts women in the same category as children. This is a document which calls for a constitutional amendment to ensure that gays cannot get married.

And you are worried about them wanting to protect children from being in porn.

And you believe that corporations should be in charge of your fate?

I just reversed your statement and now you don't like it.

She wants to CONTROL not to BAN pornography there is a difference.

I never said she wanted to ban it. She still wants to control it, which would involve government intervention. Again, we're talking about a politician whose #1 message is that government is bad. Obama wants the government to control certain aspects of the health care market, a far more consequential issue than pornography, and she considers it socialism. But when it's something that will rile up her evangelical base, government intervention is the right solution? I call bull****. Be consistent in your philosophy or I can't take you seriously.

As opposed to what... GOVERNMENT? Hell yeah... there's a whole lot of corporations to choose from, only one government, and we all know how well that government works now don't we.

Leave it to the bloggers to run wild with something. I agree with you a 100%

By in control of my fate do you mean from my salary to how many different flavors of Alfredo sauce there are in the grocery store HELL YEAH.

I don't believe in planned economies nor do I think the government is better at doing most anything but police/military/courts than the private sector.

I don't see the benefit to the porn industry or its consumers of having the government involved at all.

Pledges tend to mean very little in political reality.

People aren't consistent. You have to live with those paradoxes, or honestly, I really can't take you seriously.

Okay, don't then

I expect a certain degree of consistency of people. I am not saying I lose respect over a mild flip-flop or a bit of pandering. But when someone's entire philosophy is "GOVERNMENT IS BAD" and then they support stuff like this, it's a bridge too far for me. (Not that I would have supported Bachmann anyway, for multiple reasons. But something like this sure makes me respect her a lot less.) I guess we have different standards by which we judge our leaders, and if you can't take me seriously because of it, so be it, I'll probably be able to sleep at night anyway.

Let me ask you this. Can you see room for improvement? That would be his game.

That's unlikely.

He said he learned his leadership skills by campaigning for President so there doesn't seem to be any room for improvement. Unless you're talking the possibility of jobs which include a shovel.
