Bachmann pledges to ban pornography

Sorry I missed that post but she is right. There is too much government in many areas and it should be streamlined.

That does not mean that the idea of government should be abandoned or that some governments departments aren't necessary. It just needs to be strictly rationalized.

I don't entirely disagree with you, but if that's the case, why expand that government reach into.............porn?

because besides Sharia Law, pornography is the greatest threat to our civilization since Communism, Fascism, and alchohol.

;)

Since it was mentioned...I don't understand women who restrict their men, especially in regards to something that isn't detrimental to the woman or doesn't require direct sacrifice. If I'm okay with porn, that means when I'm not in the mood I don't have to feel guilty because he's still got access to any number of videos and images and can take care of himself without my involvment. And I know he won't feel the need to be ashamed or hide things from me of a sexual nature..so it's a win-win for me and a win-win for him.

Many men and women feel threatened when their partners find sexual satisfaction elsewhere. Most want to be a one stop shop.

After hollywood, porn is the biggest source of net revenue in the entertainment industry. If I recall correctly it's something in the range of $6-8 billion annually.

It's not going anywhere. Money means more to America than Christian fundies, so sorry Bachmann.

Interesting how you put alcohol in reverse chronological order :p

I don't understand what threat is posed by a video. To each their own, I guess....but my insecurities are mine...my boyfriend isn't obligated to placate me because of them.

She can't and won't. She's just sucking up to an important segment of the electorate. We should be politically sophisticated enough to ignore such grandstanding and base our decisions on the real issues which, in my belief anyway, is the economy. Soon those real issues will be discussed and debated between the final political opponents and this issue will long be forgotten.

we fought Communism in the 50s and 60s.

we fought Fascism in the 40s.

we fought the evils of alcohol..in the 20s.

:)

19th century, Thunder. It's how the beginnings of the Women's Suffrage Movement could take shape :)

Only from a religious idiot!
We have more important things to worry about.

There's no way that she will get the nom.

BREAKING: Bachmann pledges to ban pornography | ThinkProgress

Bachmann became the first presidential candidate to sign a pledge created by THE FAMiLY LEADER, an influential social-conservative group in Iowa. By signing the pledge Bachmann “vows” to “uphold the institution of marriage as only between one man and one woman” by committing herself to 14 specifics steps. The ninth step calls for the banning of “all forms” of pornography. The pledge also states that homosexuality is both a choice and a health risk. You can read all the details of the pledge here.

She's so stupid. Not much else to say really.

I think exorcisms should be covered by medicare and all insurance policies!

I don't feel threatened by it either but the 'finding sexual satisfaction elsewhere part' might worry some. Fears that they can never satisfy their partners they way the porn stars do, especially after the encouraging publicity Charlie Sheen gave them, could have the same awkward effects as the dreaded Brewers Droop.

Yes. But that was a really old story, Thunder. It didn't fall out of the sky. It was an issue that developed for nearly a century.

Humorous take on things.

No, the real problem is when we reach the ban on pornography.

Do you really want to stand between America and pornography, Michele Bachmann? Compared to this, Michelle Obama’s effort to stand between us and cake will be nothing. It is possible to stop eating cake.

Every second, more than 20,000 people are watching pornography. AdultFriendFinder.com has millions more visitors each day than the New York Times. And sex, as I’ve written before, is the most-searched word on the Internet. It might be why you clicked on this column, and now you are disappointed that it does not include more nudity.

Bachmann may get away with signing off on an inept reference to slavery as a positive family institution. But ban pornography? Good luck with that!

I vote to ban sex and getting fat.

So hollow I can hear the ocean...

That ignores my point entirely, whether your generalization is accurate or inaccurate. The philosophy of liberals is not inherently dishonest or hypocritical; they are up front about believing that they think the government can and should provide certain services for its citizens. The philosophy of many conservatives (such as Bachmann, or our previous POTUS, George W. Bush) IS disingenuous. Bachmann claims that any action by government is an intrusion on our freedoms..........and then she signs a pledge that wants to somehow control pornography, of all the things unimportant things one could target.

Hmmm but this just goes to show where you stand on the scale of hypocrisy as well …. I mean liberals were pitching a hissy fit over the Patriot Act .. when is was passed under Bush right … Now when Obama ( who was right up front leading that hissy fit ) not only kept that bill intact … but expanded the powers of it …. why … it's suddenly nothing to worry about anymore .. a non issue with the left … but the philosophy of liberals in not dishonest or hypocritical ???

That is hypocritical, you are correct (not me; I didn't oppose the Patriot Act). But that is one issue they are hypocritical on - it is not a contradiction of their entire philosophy, as this is for Bachmann.

That's crazy. Good luck with that Bachmann. Great idea, if you want a couple million men rioting in the streets.

Setting aside the fact that this is probably a dumb political move, and will only reinforce the opinion of centrists and undecideds that she's an insane ideologue, no politician could ban pornography for the simple reason that it's protected by the first amendment. So good luck with that, Ms. Bachmann.

Just a couple million?
