Rev. Schuller ousted from Crystal Cathedral board

Rev. Schuller ousted from Crystal Cathedral board - KansasCity.com

Wow. Talk about your "blast from the past."

    Really quite sad.

Robert H. Schuller has been at odds with his daughters over how they have chosen to run the church. The cathedral recently switched over from a traditional worship format to a Gospel-style choir - much to the chagrin of many long-time members. Coleman also required choir members to sign a covenant acknowledging Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior and the belief that marriage should be between a man and a woman.

The older Schuller publicly lashed out at the contract saying everyone is welcome in the church. Phillip Johnson, the architect who constructed the cathedral's iconic glass sanctuary, was an openly gay man.

Somehow Rev. Schuller lost his way. I remember the airline incident a few years ago when he got all huffy with a stewardess and said, "Do you know who I am?" I don't have a dog in this fight, but you have to wonder about where everyone's head is when they attend a church that is passed down to family members.

All I really remember is the oohs and aahs of how beautiful it was. I think it was one of those 'name it and claim it' churches, aka 'blab it and grab it', lol!

It is a gorgeous piece of architecture.

One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.... John Rogers

Some of the worlds best architecture is in religious buildings such as churches. When I travel I almost always seek out the famous churches and cathedrals and am knocked out by them. I once was in New Mexico - Sante Fe - and visited a church that dated back to the 1500's. It was a very simple building that had such an aura of mysticism about it. I will never forget it. When one goes into such places the spirit is raised.
