Bill Clinton Predicts Speedier Unemployment Declines Will Help Obama - Bloomberg

Clinton said he wouldn’t be surprised if Obama could get the unemployment rate down faster than people think with a few basic steps. Speeding up the hiring of people, quickening the pace of retrofitting buildings to make them more energy efficient, and streamlining the settlement of bad mortgage debt could add millions of jobs to the economy, he said.

“If you could do those three things, I wouldn’t be surprised if you could create 50 percent more jobs than anybody thinks is possible,” Clinton said.

As a former president, Clinton, 64, said he has “more sympathy” for the challenges Obama faces. He said the two men spoke “a few weeks ago,” although he is more likely to share ideas with Vice President Joe Biden, White House National Economic Council Director Gene Sperling or General Electric Co. (GE) Chief Executive Officer Jeffrey Immelt, who leads Obama’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness.

I went looking for news on him, since this quote cracked me up.

“But I get tickled,” he said. “All these guys that used to, you know, say I was the worst thing since Attila the Hun, all of a sudden now they want to build statues to me,” he said.

You think somebody on this forum has the answer to that question?

Further prediction:

A large ball of plasma will appear to rise in the sky tomorrow morning.

Gee, thanks Bill, faster decreases in unemployment will help Obama? You don't say!

Also great wisdom:

If you speed up the hiring of people then the unemployment rate will drop faster.

Why the **** didn't anyone tell us this before!?

Please read in context. Clinton said if Obama can get congressional approval for retrofitting government buildings to make them more energy efficient (and does it throughout the government) while speeding up the bottoming out of the housing market, the end result will be higher employment throughout the economy.

Yes, and all I have to do to have more money is make more money.

How, exactly, would be the important bit. How do you make the housing market recover faster?

Elect a republican, so that god can raise housing prices.

Stop over-regulating the private sector and instill a little confidence and people will start investing. As long as we have an anti-buiness/anti-capitalist government in place, nothing is going to get better.

We do not have an anti-business/anti-capitalist environment now more than any other time in the last 50 years.

Do you want the absolute method or the fair method?

a) You can pay off everyone's mortgage
b) You can buy all the vacant property and not sell it
c) You can reduce government redundancy to speed up the foreclosure process

Clinton obviously doesn't know what he's saying. Our economy was so horrid back then wasn't it?

Clinton actually tried to eliminate government departments. Thats not possible though without congressional approval.

Somebody find Bill Clinton an overweight fat chick with an oral fetish, and quickly. He's beginning to get in the way.

Clinton is actually one of my favorite US Presidents. He was a very good leader IMO. A lot of republicans admire him too.

Dem version of Reagan?

He has a point.

Bill Clinton Says Don

“I think it’s crazy for us to be talking about doing this right now,” he said. “I don’t think it’s healthy to have big tax cuts or big tax increases or big spending cuts right now. We need to put America back to work first.”

Politics has distorted the facts of the nation’s debt ceiling during the debate between Obama and congressional Republicans, Clinton said.

“When you vote to raise the debt ceiling, you’re not legitimizing further deficits,” he said. “You’re voting to pay what you owe for what has already been done.”

There has been more over-regulation in the past 2 years, than the past 50 combined.

And before you start whinging, "prove it", I'll leave you with this: The drilling ban, Obamacare, EPA regs against coal fired power plants, just for starters.

Who was running Congress back in thise days??

Clinton had more power than the repubs

And how does that have anything to do with the housing and credit markets?

Nothing, I reckon, but it has everything to do with the government stifiling small businesses out of existance. Obama hates small businesses. He only wants big businesses, that are run by his pards, so he can tell them what to do.

In the political sense yes.

repubs are the exact same way. Everyone is a cronie. And Obama doesn't hate small business, he hates polluters and big business simply can cover the cost of mandatory upgrade easier. "CongressCare" exempts small business.

Obama is the biggest cronie capitalist in the history of the country.

We're not getting speedy unemployment declines. We're getting speedy increase. 9.1% and rising. No President since 1936 who has gone into an election year with an unemployment rate of 7.2% or higher has ever been reelected.

I put him on the same level of Bush and Clinton. I know Reagan was heavily influenced by Wallstreet but I can't say with certainy how much he was. Nixon maybe? The only difference is I'm more likely to agree with the polices of Obama than I am with Bush. Clinton is neutral
