GOP senators shun meeting on trade deals

GOP senators shun meeting on trade deals - Washington Times

Republican senators on Thursday boycotted a congressional meeting to discuss three trade deals with South Korea, Panama and Colombia that have taken years to negotiate in a move that could further delay their approval.

“We tried everything in our power to work with the majority [Democrats] to find a resolution - to give senators enough time to consider these three agreements and the 97 amendments that had been filed,” said Sen. Orrin G. Hatch of Utah, the ranking Republican on the finance committee. “We want these agreements to pass. We want the committee to send them to the full Senate for consideration. Unfortunately, the majority refused toaccommodate our concerns. They refused to give the American people time to understand these agreements.”

Republicans had requested a meeting earlier in the day Thursday to have more time to discuss the issue in full, but when Democrats scheduled it for late Thursday, they decided to be no-shows.
    More What-the-****ery.

Climate, changes. It takes a particularly uneducated population to buy into the idea that it's their fault climate is changing and further political solutions can fix it.

Re: GOP senators shun meeting on trade deals

A Senate panel planned to have a hearing today to discuss free trade agreements with Panama, Colombia and South Korea -- agreements that have been in the works for years. Republicans support the deals, as does President Obama, but the GOP today blasted Democrats for trying to attach extra spending to the agreements to help workers displaced by free trade.

    -=-=-

Sen. Orrin Hatch of Utah, calling negotiations with the other party "noxious," said that Democrats purposefully scheduled the hearing for this afternoon, when they knew several senators would already be out of town for July 4th.

Republican Sen. John Thune of South Dakota said the free trade agreements should be "slam dunks."

"To leave something like this sitting around for four years that would create jobs... and help us expand and grow the economy, it is inexcusable," he said. The "free trade agreements are being hijacked in order to get spending the administration wants."

I thought a little more insight into this was in order. Sounds like the GOP did the right thing here and is standing up for it's beliefs, and telling the Dem's to go take a hike for being jerks.

I see nothing wrong with holding out to give "We the People" a chance to see what they are getting us into.

We all know the disaster Obamneycare is going to ne ti medicine and the economy, and all because The Dems wanted to pudh it through with no one in or out of Congress knowing anything about it.

We need 72 hours minumum to look over what ever they are going to force on us so we can raise hell if needed to maybe keep from getting screwed.

Good Job GOP. "We the People" need more of this.

Orrin Hatch Tacks Anti-Abortion Amendment Onto Korean Trade Deal

WASHINGTON--Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) attached an amendment to the U.S.-Korea Free Trade Agreement on Thursday that would ban any organizations that provide abortions, including hospitals, from receiving Medicaid family planning funds -- even if those abortions are to save a woman's life.

The Senate Finance Committee will consider the amendment Thursday afternoon as they begin action on the South Korea pact, despite the fact that there is no connection between the two issues.
