I have been convinced almost from the start that Bachmann is a real contender. And she is a contender BECAUSE people laugh at her. The right of anti-intellectualism and anti-education admires her, and feels like she is their revenge for being laughed at. She literally degrades her own intelligence - because she knows exactly who she's talking to. She's the candidate Palin could have been. The only reason she wasn't is because she couldn't stay on message, and she FOUGHT against being considered stupid. Bachmann embraces it. And her poll numbers show why she's doing it.

Bachmann is serious. And I will pay close attention to her campaign, because I will not be caught off guard by an extremist of half my intelligence whose only saving grace is her ability to understand how stupid she really is and what a selling point that is in America today. Bachmann is almost poetic in how well she represents everything that is wrong with the public discourse.
What is this nonsense you post?
Climate, changes. It takes a particularly uneducated population to buy into the idea that it's their fault climate is changing and further political solutions can fix it.

I'm going by two things -- the numbers, and what I've heard out of conservatives thus far.

Going all the way back to November, no major national poll shows her in the lead. Literally, none. Romney is a firm frontrunner. Secondly, right wingers as a whole (including the looneys) are ambivalent about her. Go troll places like conservativesforum if you don't believe me. There isn't really any excitement for her.

Yeah, Charlie Sheen was in the news a lot too. Maybe he should have declared his candidacy when he had the "tiger blood bump."

I read the article, but it doesn't change the fact that she's extremely polarizing. I take her serious enough not to laugh at her, because I personally don't find fundamentalism that funny. She's ridiculous, but obviously very serious.

I hope she wins the whole damn thing. Nothing would put an end to two party politics faster than having someone as crazy as her for president.

Unless of course the two parties are making a third party holding real power impossible.

What is the campaign slogan of pretty much every GOP candidate these days? "I'm just your average Joe."

All Bachmann is doing is taking that another couple steps further.

People don't like "exceptional" in the political arena anymore. With his CNN English and his fancy degree and his way-too-long explanations of policy. What, do they think they're better than us? That is what Bachmann panders to.

Yeah, well, your average Joe has a middle-school literacy level, can't really do algebra, and doesn't know what year the Revolutionary war started.

I don't want average Joe. I want exceptional. I want our best and our brightest. I want someone who could wipe the floor with me.

Not someone who would probably score lower on a basic civics test than I would.

Pfft. Yeah, I'd better pick up a copy of Rolling Stone and bone up.

    Oversimplification of the century.

Sure. But do consider he was the least popular president... ever. And yet most people will say, "Oh, but he seems really charming. I bet he'd be cool to talk to."

That's why people voted for him, even after a disastrous first term. They liked him. And they didn't care about his ability to lead.
