Obama Administration Passes DREAM ACT by Executive Memo

Do you understand that there is a difference between an executive memo and an executive order?

All these folks been looking on the list of executive orders, for an executive memo, all evening! :lamo

Actually this is wrong. I listed the list of presidential acts, which includes Executive Memos. I actually looked at the page of Executive Memo's too, but did not link to it since I found an all inclusive page to link to. It's not an Executive Memo either.

The one term president Obama is not the only executive in the Executive branch. This Memo was from ICE. Coincidence?

I understand that. I just wanted to make it clear to others reading that it was not an EO. As this thread shows, actual research is not done by enough people.

Very true and that's unfortunate. One thing I learned early on when I first registered here is that if you don't read the source info in the OP (i.e., articles, legal documents, Acts of Congress), not only do you remain uninformed, you also show your ignorance.

Well, actually, it did.

Immigration Officials Alter Deportation Tactic - WSJ.com

The idea of this must scare the crap out of ya'll, to send you all into such a state of denial.

Actually, from what the article describes (I only got a snippet because I'm not a registered member of the WSJ online. So, if you are it would be beneficial to the readers if you could post the entire article here.) it seems that the Dept of Homeland Security is attempting to beef up their illegal immigration data collection by comparing finger prints from those individuals they apprehend to finger prints in FBI/DHS database files. Frankly, I'm surprised people would be surprised about this, i.e., local and federal agencies working together in a more efficient manner to catch illegal aliens. I'd think folks would be applauding such efforts not condemning them.

No, everything I stated is 100 % factually correct. The OP source is not. This is not the DREAM Act. There is no route to citizenship in this. I cannot find even where this came directly from the president, and it does not appear to be from either an EO or Executive memo.

So everyone understands what the issue is here:

There is no Executive Order from the President directing any federal agency, i.e.., ICE, to purposefully exclude any illegal alien they apprehend from being prosecuted under the law. However, just as with any federal agency ICE has discretionary powers to determine who to prosecute and who not to prosecute. Since we all know there are millions of illegal aliens running around, we clearly don't have the manpower nor facilities to house them. So, ICE is just being prudent based on their limited resources in going after those illegals who they believe pose a threat to our national security. Illegal aliens who happen to have lived here since early childhood, have no criminal record, have graduated high school or who have served honorable in our military don't fit the bill of someone posing as national security threats.

Now, that said, I do understand why some people would be oppose to the ICE Director's position concerning "prosecutorial discretion" as outlined in the memo. Many of the issues outlined in the memo mirror criteria as a "path to citizenship" as outlined in the DREAM Act. BUT...

As Redress points out, making judgment calls on who to prosecute and who not to prosecute does NOT equate to "a pass to citizenship". It just means that ICE basically will do everything in its power to focus on catching the bad guys and leave the rest to others to deal with.

I know...seems a slap in the face to detering illegal immigration, but based on the memo's contents ICE has to pick its poison - track down, capture, prosecute and deport every suspected illegal alien (which even I would find preferable under ideal circumstances) or focus on getting those who wish to do us harm. If given a choice, I prefer the latter.

Post #1 says Executive Memo. The one term president Obama has henchmen.

Post number one is based on misinformation, which World Nut Daily is famous for. ALL Executive Orders and Executive Memos are posted at the White House web site. So I did as Redress suggested and combed the White House web site for it. There is no such posting at the White House web site, that Obama passed the DREAM act by Executive order, as Hot Air claims, and that World Nut Daily and FOX News put out as a news story. Looks like this story is just more propaganda for the sheep. LOL.

If any part of this turns out to be true, I will be pissed off beyond belief. :2mad:

It's bad enough that 20 years worth of presidents have been bribed by money and votes to turn their backs on the government's obligation to secure our borders and enforce our immigration laws. Now if this administration has decided that they aren't even going to deport those here illegally unless they commit a crime, I'll be furious. They have committed a crime just for being here. If they have stolen social security or green card numbers to gain employment, that have committed another crime. If they use fraudulent means to obtain welfare and other taxpayer funded services, they have committed yet another crime.

This whole issue chaps the hell out of me.

So right, danarhea, and it's unfortunate that people can't make that distinction between a memo that comes directly from the Executive (White House) and a memo issue from a department head of a particular agency. All the Dir, ICE is doing is streamlining his apprehension process by going after illegal aliens in accordance with the law, policy review and well established procedures from the past. Nothing more here, folks. That alleged subversion of Congressional power via Executive Order as a path to citizenship for illegal aliens just isn't there, folks.

I would suggest that you read the memo by the Dir, ICE to understand exactly what's going on here versus what's being claim, i.e., that ICE is subverting the law and will not prosecute illegal aliens and are giving them a free path to citizenship as was claimed that the DREAM Act would have allowed. Nothing like that is happening here although I do admit some of the criteria for amnesty under the DREAM Act are outlined in this memo that the ICE Director has outlined as not really warranting criminal prosecution. I think that's what's go so many people upset. Odd thing is, this has been established policy within ICE and INS for decades. Why folks are getting upset about this now is beyond me.

Gotta also look at it from this perspective: Yellow journalism from the very same people who empowered the birthers. LOL.

Am familiar with the use of the Presidential Executive Order. But confess have never heard of an item known as the Presidential Executive Memo.

Can you provide a link to the list of Executive Memos you note above. (and what is the purpose/authority of such a memo coming from the President....?)

"Congress? We don't need no stinking Congress" --Barack Obama
That would be so awesome if he actually said that, lol.

Time to remove this SOB from office through impeachment and defund everything he wants.

This bastard is anti American and violates the Constitution all the damn time.

I have made a point to always say I don't hate the person, I hate the sin. but with Obama ot's getting really hard to hold to that.

This type of ignorant reaction is exactly what those offering the lies here want. They want people to blindly lash out. They will remember the emotion, and not the fact they where lied to shamelessly. They hope people cannot be bothered to actually read on what they claim. They adore ignorance. By reacting like this, you are giving power to those who use lies for political gain. The best we can hope for is those who cannot be bothered to read a few ****ing minutes do not vote.

This thread is freaking ridiculous. What people will believe is unbelievable.

You mean that the world is only 7,000 years old, and that Jesus might have ridden a dinosaur? Knowing that people believe stories like that, it is very believable what else they would believe. LOL.

Soo where is the proof other than HotAir.com, freerepublic.com, frumforum.com, and teaparty.org which all link back to HotAir.com?
Are you guys really that naive and believe everything you see that furthers your cause? Really? Seriously?

Might want ot read the memo. Nothing in it provides for amnesty.

Homeland Security officials misled the public and Congress last year in an effort to downplay a wave of immigration case dismissals in Houston and other cities amid accusations that they had created a "back-door amnesty," newly released records show.
The records, obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request, include a series of internal memos from Immigration and Customs Enforcement's chief counsel in Houston dated last August ordering attorneys to review all new, incoming cases and thousands already pending on the immigration court docket and to file paperwork to dismiss any that did not meet the agency's "top priorities." (Read the documents provided by the federal officials in response to a FOIA request here.)
The secretive review process resulted in the dismissal of hundreds of cases in Houston, most of them involving illegal immigrants who had lived in the United States for years without committing serious crimes.
A string of emails shows the dismissals had the blessings of top attorneys at ICE headquarters in Washington, D.C., last summer and that other ICE legal offices across the country were encouraged to consider measures to better use the agency's limited resources to target dangerous criminals.

Yep, no sign of Amnesty at all. Seriously, can you reach a deeper level of political hackery Redress?

Looking into this. So far the stories are all on blogs and all based on a WND story, which means highly questionable. Looking for a real story on this.

Edit: no such EO is listed at the WH website, and no reporting on this outside of right wing blogs. Going to go with either a hoax or a complete misrepresentation of what has been done./

OP story linked to the memo.. have not read it yet myself....

EDIT:

Upon research online and reading this thread... I do not see any act or memo from the President authorizing a change in ICE procedures.

SO choosing to prioritize prosecutions for those in high risk categories over those in low risk categories, as has been the procedure for some time, is now amnesty? Interesting conclusion, even if entirely false.

The controversy dates to June 2010, when ICE Director John Morton issued a memo to all agency employees explaining that it had the resources to remove only about 400,000 illegal immigrants annually - less than 4 percent of the estimated illegal immigrant population.
Morton said ICE needed to prioritize the deportations of illegal immigrants to those who pose a risk to national security and public safety, recent illegal entrants and repeat immigration violators.
The records obtained by the Houston Chronicle show top ICE attorneys from across the country, including Gary L. Goldman, chief counsel for Houston, met in Denver at a two-day leadership conference in early August and discussed Morton's priorities, the agency's limited resources and the need to exercise prosecutorial discretion - the power to decide which immigration cases to pursue.

Why the stonewalling and cover ups? Why the BS on this, if it's just "the smart thing to do"?

Because some idiots would make a big deal out of nothing?

There we go folks, no need to know what's going on from the Feds, just trust everything they do, cause "us idiots" might get upset.
