Its despicable, drunk morons.

People feel they need to destroy their own city because they lost a hockey game.

People out there in the world, protesting for their freedom, getting shot up, tortured and killed...

and Vancouver riots over a hockey game...

Well played...

Isn't this the same place that had commie morons protesting the freakin' Olympics?

Where are the police? They had to know after the cup riot in 1994 in Vancouver this was going to happen. They should have been prepared with support from surrounding police depts or actually the military.

They should have had the manpower to come in wave after wave of riot police and come in force. No need to question people just come in with the concern of public safety and put a quick stop to the mayhem. Just shower them with tear gas and use their batons.

Vancouver is way to liberal for that......when all the dust settles they'll round up the villians and have a group discussion to get in touch with their inner feelings to find out why it happened and prescribe some therapy, they'll come up with a new tax to pay for the damages........ or maybe they'll apply for finacial aid from the US for assistance

If they can't constrain the stupid, it needs to be beaten out of them.

They will blame it on the Bruins for not being more sensitive to the needs of the chirruns. Or the Vancouver team for failing to deliver on the 'promise' they were due.

What good is riot police in riot gear if you dont employ both personnel and ordinance...

This has got to be one of the most asinine posts I have ever read here at DP. Congrats!

Always in the liberal cities.

In the U.S., you see it in Boston, Detroit, Chicago, LA......and that's when they WIN the championship.

And which cities in the US do you consider to be conservative cities?

Having worked with Seattle a little bit, I have to say that there is some truth to the sentiments in the post you quoted. There seems to be a hopelessly idealistic pie-in-the-sky view of thugs and criminals in some U.S. cities, which is used to constrain law enforcement from doing their job effectively. Then, when things like this happen, there is shock and awe amongst the local contingent of bleeding hearts, and much pointing fingers at racism and social ills as the causal factors, when many of these rioters were probably economically privileged and white. Vancouver is Seattle+++ in terms of liberality.

For instance, the city of Seattle (city council plus mayor) does not allow its police force to use the term "gang," because they believe the term inappropriately labels impoverished minority youth. Except, Seattle has a major gang problem, and the city government has put major hindrances in the way of effective responses by local police. Is the problem solved or erased by denying it and attempting to sweep it under the rug? Of course not. When high profile incidents occur, then, the city reacts with horror and can't conceive of those kinds of things happening in their lovely community.

This is exactly why Seattle went sky high during the WTO riots a few years ago. It's almost as if the city leaders can't conceive of actual criminals who mean them, the city, and local residents harm. Seattle, Vancouver, and a number of additional cities in the northwest are also hotbeds of anarchist nutjobs. When they go beserk, everyone acts shocked. I find it rather humorous, tbh. Except, for people who are the victims of this sort of stuff, it isn't amusing, at all.

Denver and San Francisco are similar in this regard.

On a lighter note: Am I the only one who isn't surprised that it was a hockey game that led to a riot in Canada?

Also, these riots are going to seem insignificant when 2014 rolls around and the Tim Horton riots erupt.

Oh yeah because Boston was really like that last night. Because in fact the places I was there was never anything close to stuff like this going on and from my understanding the Garden was a bit more out of control. This has nothing to do with politics, so take your political BS somewhere else.

Boston and Dallas both did themselves proud. Kinda sad that we actually see that as a shocking thing...

I think people's problem with Boston was what happened after '07. I mean those riots from the NBA Finals were bad resulting in two people dying. But it seemed to have to do more with the fact, A) Boston had must murdered LA, and B) it was the first time a finals was won in Boston in a long time. I think those to things combined lead the NBA Finals to turn out like they did, because the Red Sox one in the fall was nothing like it.

I see your hyperpartisanship is in play again today.

I live in Houston, and when the Rockets won their first NBA championship, in 1993, the same thing happened here. Knowing you, I am sure that you will now call Texas a liberal hippie-commie state.

Well, Houston especially is. :p

It just goes to show that there are thugs in every city no matter how much local government wants to sugar coat it... or not.

That made me chuckle cause it's so true. It's hilarious what makes Canadians get so riled up or instill fierce patriotism. Last year, when Canada won the hockey gold, people in my stiff conservative city ran out of their houses to party in the streets. I was downtown and took a walk to Parliament Hill where thousands of Canadians gathered to sing dozens of drunken "O Canada" renditions. I'm sure if we were bombed by some rogue nation at the same time we'd have ignored it until the party was over.

i kinda doubt that.......... but since you are in Canada's Capitol......do all cities in Canada build a wall when they host a major event to hide the poverty stricken part of town, or is that just a Vancouver thing?

Oh, completely. And conservative cities do it as well, they just sugar coat it in a different way.

To be honest, I adore Canada. I have a bunch of friends there. I've actually considered moving there a few times.

Our slums look like palaces compared to what I have personally seen in many major American cities. Just sayin'.
