Senate report: The Latin American war on drugs has ‘largely failed’

A U.S. Senate subcommittee report this week called into question efforts to curb drug exports from Latin America, suggesting that billions in tax dollars had been wasted in no-bid contracts with no oversight on how the money was being spent or whether efforts were succeeding.

The report comes just a week after a panel of formerly high-ranking officials -- including the former presidents of Switzerland, Colombia, Mexico and Brazil, along with a former U.N. Secretary General, a former U.S. Secretary of State, the prime minister of Greece and the former U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights -- called for the drug war to shift its focus from enforcement and interdiction to medical treatment and harm-reduction policies.
In related news; The sky is blue. Several government officials have come out realizing that the Drug War is a failure so the real question is are they going to actually do something about it and actually end this farce of a "war"?

It took a U.S. Senate subcommittee to figure this out. Can't the Senators read the papers or listen to the radio, watch TV?

You really have to wonder when these brainiacs are going to get a clue.

My best friend's son is a Border Patrolman in the Nagales AZ. area and they are as busy now as they have ever been, and if you watch National Geographic channel you can see it every week. I'm sure glad I don't live anywhere near the border because they have problems all over.

If not from the Cartels from illegals and anyone who says different it a damn liar, as are Obama and Napolitano.

We need troops on our Border because there are a lot os OTMs coming through every week.

In 2010 Mexico opened the new year with 69 murders in one day.

In 2009 there were 6,500 Drud related murders.

We all have read that Mexican Drug Cartel related kidnappings have made Phoenix AZ. number two in the world for kidnappings

We could always change the metrics and judge our success solely by the number of people we put in prison. Then we could say we were doing great.
    I may be wrong.

Gee, there's a real shocker. Who could possibly have predicted that, considering that the war against alcohol in the 20's was such a brilliant success?
For: legalizing drugs, gay marriage, abortion, guns, universal health care, public sector jobs, nuclear power, free education, progressive taxation
Against: corporations, make-work, the 40 hour work week, intellectual property, imperialism, "homeland security," censorship
