Wisconsin Unions Disrupt Special Olympics Ceremony

Whovian said:
State Treasurer Kurt Schuller, a GOP official whose daughter was a Special Olympics competitor, denounced the demonstration in a statement.

"To be confronted by protesters, who will never understand the personal challenges that these Special Olympians face, who decided to politicize a nonpolitical event, shows a complete lack of civility when civility is something we should all be working toward," he said.
another lying republican ... but then i repeat myself:
Rachel Grant, a spokeswoman for the Special Olympics, said officials were nervous when the zombie protesters first arrived, but they turned out to be peaceful.

"We were all a little bit on edge, but it turned out for the best," Grant said. "Nothing was disruptive at all."

Kelly Kloepping, another Special Olympics official, said the protesters were respectful and did not diminish the excitement the Special Olympians felt about being in Madison to meet Walker and other leaders.

"We feel it's really about the athletes," Kloepping said. "We knew the protesters were there, but they were respectful of our athletes."

He lied about nothing. They were confrontied by protestors... who politicized a non-political event... which showed a complete lack of civility.

I must try to remember that expressing opinons is frowned upon... if you're a member of the GOP.

I agree. Your opinions do not matter. NIce that we could come to such an understanding.

Bullshat. There is no place that is not touched by politics,

So if your kid or sibling was graduating from a school it would be alright if a bunch of douche bags decided they wanted to steal the spot light to protest a guest speaker or faculty member?

there is no place where they are not appropriate.

The special Olympics does not have squat to do with the protesters beef with Walker. This event is about the participants not whining douchebags who are pissed because they are going to lose their union power.

Had this been a Democratic governor, the same people in this thread saying this is no big deal and being completely accepting of this would be pitching a ****ing fit, and they know it.
Maybe they would and maybe they wouldn't. Not everybody thinks that just because their party or their guy did something wrong then its alright.

Do you have credible proof that money removed from special education was directly given to the Koch brothers? Please... link?

I don't believe he responded to this post.

Nor do I recall ever encountering a a rug more adept at lying then that poster, so I wouldn't expect a reply.

Of course it would... Especially if Obama was the guest speaker... that would make it a political event, and worthy of protesting. Haven't you been pating attention?

It's somewhat difficult to provide proof where none exists.

Scott Walker is a politician. He politicized the event by being there.

This is bull****. That the Governor is a "politician" does not mandate that his presence at any event is therefore a "politicized" event. In fact, the Governor attends many functions where politics is not his purpose there, where he is not there to espouse any opinions of a political nature. Rather, he is there as the chief executive of the state.

We all would agree that a right to protest exists. And that with a Governor, a group of protestors needs to find the opportunity to confront him/her, and also look for media coverage.

However, the issue here is one of appropriate venue. In that those also being disrupted are those of special needs. In some cases, of lesser mental capacities, who would be unable to process this as a valid protest.

"Politics" as an excuse is rubbish in this case. There is no excuse except arrogance and thuggery. This was heinous.

1. they were there to protest walker.

2. them showing up THERE to protest walker meant they were protesting at the special olympics

3. you don't ****ing protest at the special olympics - it is wrong, it is crude, it is narcissistic, those people deserve better than to have their day of achievement hijacked by the vitriol-spewing partisans of either side. this is a lower order of magnitude - but the same kind - of protest that the westboro baptist folks engage in; taking something that is very explicitely about honoring others and trying to make it about you and your anger instead.

i'll admit, I'm surprised. i really didn't expect everyone to immediately be willing to screw over those with special needs to defend public unions. i guess it's true what they say about who owns who.

Bold and underlined part: That is exactly what I was thinking before I even got to this post. Good job on this one cpwill.

Well, it's not like the Special Olympians were upset about the protest, is it? Some people dressed as zombies showed up. So what? If they showed up with signs saying that the kids needed to be put down, then that is a good reason to get upset. But they didn't do that, did they? They showed up and protested Walker's policies.

Also, I find it humorous that Walker would even have the balls to show up to an event like this, after gutting special education, and giving the money to the Koch Brothers. The irony here is so thick you can cut it with a knife. His showing up to the Special Olympics is orders of magnitude more repugnant than the protesters who showed up.

To the special kids - Pay no attention to the funny guys dressed in zombie suits, but watch out for that governor who is holding the knife that he is stabbing you in the back with.

Bold part: Prove it. I am not aware that Walker cut any funding for special education...much less gave that money to anyone.

Because nothing says "classy" like protesting a bunch of special needs children, and trying to take away their day.

 way to go, unions! way to stick it to the man!!!

What a hack piece.

At least Walker isn't complaining about their freedom of speech... that would really make him look like an asshat. And it might be offensive to you, but at least you heard their protest... If they protested at small ceremony or just did a sit in, we probably wouldn't be having this conversation.

I like to see the public this amped up to fight for their beliefs and standup.... I don't care which side they are on. People should be active... If we were more active and had the fight in us all the time, our country probably would be so ****ed up right now.

check it out. lots of people who would typically fall into the union camp are going to find this offensive - and nearly everyone who usually doesn't will.

"Just Getting Noticed" irrespective of how you do so is not a formula for winning the public debate. There is a reason why we laud Martin Luther King Jr but lament the Black Panthers.

Me thinks the Special Olympics Crowd is being used here as a tool here to further the agenda of the republican party.

How is this counter(online)protest working out for you? All the while using the little needy kids as a crutch?

Someone mentioned earlier that the protesters where retarded for doing this?

I will acknowledge those special needs people are very special and deserve more respect than they have been given on here.

God bless those kids and their families.

How about the next time you're at a concert, with front row seats, I get a dozen people to stand in front of you and block your view.

You good with that?

Ever heard of security guards??.. Thats why most places have elevated stages like at this event....

You talk about Walker when these asses show they have no respect for the handicapped?

Do you know anybody was offended other than you, or are you just getting your talking points from Rush?

generally we can know when the Westboro folks are coming. I would hope that if folks had known that union protestors were about to crash the special olympics they would have done something similar.

They are probably going to protest anywhere Walker makes a large public appearance. I honestly don't think the motivation to counter protest is there, or else there would have been a counter protest this time.

It took away the respect and praise the Special Needs people were supposed to get.

Instead they could not even see the Governor who was honoring them.

Shows what scumbags unions are

No, this just shows how desperate you guys are to attack unions and paint them with a broad brush and as socially indefensible.

The "me first" liberal union punks showed once again the pathetic hypocrisy that is American liberalism and the Democrat Party.

It is no different than Westboro disrupting a military funeral in pursuit of advertising their own absurd views.

Except we all can criticize that absurdity.

But this kind of pathetic union thuggery ? Nope, its all OK with the me-me-me libs.

 Oh please, if unions were actually as unacceptable as the Westboro folks, the same people counter protesting the Westboro Church would be out there counter protesting the unions. The Westboro Baptist Church are vile people who show scorn, hate, and disrespect for other people. The unions don't ****ing hate the handicapped. The unions weren't out there waving signs that the handicapped should go to hell. If anybody is showing their hatred here, it's people like you who are desperate to attack unions... and blame everything wrong in America on them.

Since Walker first started attacking them, they have just grown more and more activated, and now you ****ers are just trying to club them every chance you get.

No, this just shows how desperate you guys are to attack unions and paint them with a broad brush and as socially indefensible.

Yeah ... we're so desperate we dress up like zombies and do our Frankenstein walk as we go and disrupt events for special needs kids and teens. Yup .. that's what we do ............ NOT !
