That's not unusual either. Look at how far McCain had to bend in order to run.

AUSTAN GOOLSBEE: I think the world vests too much power, certainly in the president, probably in Washington in general for its influence on the economy, because most all of the economy has nothing to do with the government.

Having been a Mormon, I would find it very difficult to do for a true Mormon.

i think it's easy to separate "marriage" and unions outside of a church. no church should be forced to perform marraiges for gays, we should, however, recognize them civilly. just because obama personally believes marriage is between a man and a woman does exclude his recognition of civil rights. much like a person can be pro choice but wouldn't ever consider an abortion for themselves.

I agree with most of your statement and if I lived in a state where civil unions were passed as a law I am reasonably sure that the sun would still come up tomorrow and the earth wouldnt split and life would go on. I simply find it beyond hypocritical that people express this mindless rabid concern over the religous preferences of one party while completely ignoring the other. Its as if people dont even IMAGINE that say, the Blue Dog Democrats from the south might have strong religious beliefs similar to many (and not all) republicans. 'Religion' is the last on my list of qualifications for government office.

Ive still not seen anything regarding the OP that indicates that Romneys faith should be an issue. to those that discount him simply because of his faith I say to you...shame on you you disgusting narrow minded intolerant bigots.

Romney's faith = not an issue.

Obama's faith = BIG HONKING ISSUE.

    Okay....

How about if I discount Romney because he Governed from a pro-choice perspective, but is now passing himself off as pro-life? What if I discount Romney because he initiated "individual mandate" health care reform in Massachusetts, but now suddenly thinks it's evil incarnate?

I think people pay attention to the religious preferences of the Republican Party because Republican social conservatives are louder than Democrat social conservatives and are also more influential in their party.

People that thought Obamas religion was a disqualifier are as asenine as those that thing Romneys is. Obama's deficits were he had zero qualifications beyond being a clean articulate well spoken black person. Romneys disqualifiers are that he changes his position and stances based on which direction the wind is blowing in his consitutents back yard. Dude has to stand for something and be consistent.

Are they, or is that the message that is raised as an attack in every election? Personally I think most republicans are just as corrupt as democrats.

I think more focus is on religion in the Republican Party because it seems like socially, it is playing a bigger role for the GOP members. Saying that it is also possible that more focus is on the environment in the Democratic Party because it seems like environmental issues are playing a bigger role for the Democrat members.
