Times have changed, my man. Now parents go to school with lawyers and raise hell with the school because they had to take time off from work.
i'll agree with this. the primary problem with schools today is an issue of PARENTING. money won't solve the problem.
the worst schools in the nation are comprised almost entirely of kids with parents whom simply don't give a $hit. they feel the school is
a free "day care" service and nothing more. discipline begins at home. if it's not there? the public school becomes a lost cause.

That is it. It is evident in daily life beyond schools. We all see the lack of parenting. We see continually. The lack of discipline in schools is a result of the problem, it is not THE problem. The problem won't be solved in schools.

I like what everyone has said about discipline in public schools...But this bill doesn't address that at all. It merely means Tennessee teachers can probably get paid more by leaving the state, which will only mean even less qualified teachers, which will mean even worse schools (and we're already near the bottom).

Yeah, if the Tea Party has its way, they won't talk about slavery either.

The GOP is just ensuring that the next generation will be GOP voters.

That's not hard to do in this state (with the exception of Nashville and Memphis) - and that's when the state overturns the laws made in Nashville and Memphis.

I have mixed feelings about this, but overall I think it's a good idea (I don't support giving teachers unreasonably low and poor pay/benefits). What the state NEEDS to be doing is fixing TenCare (TN Medicaid program).

    They already started that.

Tennessee Gay Rights Law Quashes Nashville Ordinance

The interesting thing is that cities with protection for gay workers have been proven to bring in new businesses and educated workers.

In an apparent attempt to score cheap political points, Tenn. Governor Bill Haslam has ignored the business community and signed into law a bill that wipes out county and city anti-discrimination laws, despite the Tennessee Chamber of Commerce and Industry reversing their earlier support and now opposing the bill. The measure – SB 632/HB 600 – passed the legislature last week and was designed to remove protections for LGBT Tennesseans by prohibiting cities and counties from enacting discrimination bans. Since there are no state protections for sexual orientation or gender identity, the Governor’s signature of this bill becomes a green light for anti-LGBT discrimination across the state.
Oh, and as long as that law is on the books in Tennessee, I'll drive hundreds of miles out of my way to avoid going through Tennessee and giving them a penny of my money.

Not that I agree with or support any legislation that could be considered anti-gay... but, do you have a link for that statistic?
