If you can manage it in your seat, quietly, then I am not likely to care even if I happen to notice. Cross your fingers and bow your head all you like. Just please don't make it so you're impossible to ignore while the rest of us are trying to get on with what we're doing. That's my issue.
I can't speak for all Protestest sects of course as I am not a Protestant, but I believe there are some that require that kind of gesture, not to mention what Muslims need to do. You don't think that the rights of the student to pray can't be accomodated within reason?

Teachers and other children have a right to not have their education disrupted, in a public, governmental building, by religion.

If they'd like to provide a separate space for that, fine. But not where anyone else is having their learning disrupted.

But I don't really see how that's possible without granting unfair exemption from time in class. That's a waste of tax dollars, frankly.

The idea that 1. these students will die if they don't get to pray in the middle of school and 2. that somehow their god only grants prayers if they are disruptive about it is rather absurd.

Best thing I think they could do is go off during lunch period or some other unstructured time if they desperately (?) need to pray.

Proselytizing in a predominantly non Christian Country is not exactly a brainy move.

I admire his courage but but he did ask for it didn't he. In a way he's lucky to be alive.

The whole episode once again points out that Islam is not a Religion of peace and Love.
