A gay teen describes her experience at a Utah brainwashing facility

There are endless reports of child molestation and other abuses in The Family (a Christian cult). I actually met someone who escaped The Family, which prompted me to look into them.

Yet they never seem to get pinned. And in fact, they run the C Street Center that a lot of politicians frequent. Including some, like Ensign, accused and/or convicted of some pretty serious crimes.

I have never herd of child molesting happening in The Family, and I wouldn't call it a cult, just a good ol boys club for Evangelicals. Please share your sources of those happenings

Just read the article? Do people really no know that this stuff goes on every day? Really?

The way I see it. This is a Michael Jackson type of accusation. The school gets accused over and over again of abusing and hurting children but it manages to get away through settlements and legal maneuvering. At the end of the day, the only people who don't want to acknowledge what is obvious are the true believers. Everyone else sees the issue for what it is.

There are hundreds of such reports. I'd really recommend looking into it. My friend also had such experiences.

I'm not sure how Cross Creek comes to obtain it's troubled teens they're suppose to be helping.

But my husband worked for a CSTEPP type program and every single one of those kids were there via judgment of the court after a lengthy series of crimes and mayhem - and the purpose was to either shape them up so they can join society again - or ship them off to juvenile detention so they can face a lifetime of incarceration.

Every single one of those kids was ****ed up and had serious issues and parental guidance and love was doing nothing for them. . . every single one had 'earned' their place in that program and at that facility. *shrug*

The state ran boot camps are different than the for profit Christian organizations that brainwash people.

Cross Creek takes people who are sent their by their parents/guardians, not sent their by law enforcement.

So these parents are really just trying - likely struggling - to readjust their kids and set them on the right path before it goe sot the point of them being labeled and sentenced as delinquents.

In some cases yes, in other cases it simply "you can't be gay, you'll go to hell" However, the parents should realize that brainwashing/demoralizing/dehumanizing a person doesn't fix a damn thing.

Brainwashing my ass. What an overblown, ridiculous assertion to make.

Apparently you have never encountered places like the one described by the OP

That depends, and is part of the question raised by this. What behavioral issues are they trying to correct? Can't tell from their own website because it is painfully vague and unclear on the issue. Who handles oversight of places like this? Why so many lawsuits?

While her story may have been exaggerated and concoted in some places, it is doubtless it is true (just look at the wikipedia website about the organization). This organization disgusts me, as well as the people who defend it and work in it

If parents choos to enroll their children there then they shoul be the ones to watch out for any and all activity and raise concerns, etc.

I'm vaguely familiar with these programs; to the best of my knowledge, they tend to focus on substance addiction and anti-social tendencies, and not "de-gaying" teenagers. I don't believe that Cross Creek is more faith-based than a 12-step program.

You seem to be operating under the misapprehension that parents wouldn't do this to their children on purpose.

False analogy. MJ was tried, faced his accusers, and found to be innocent. Furthermore, almost none of the kids who had been w/MJ said anything negative about him.

Did you read post 15? The "co-founder" reeks of holier than thou tendencies. That type of fanaticism is bound to spill over into anything he does.

What a weak memory your insolent little mind has.

1993 child sexual abuse accusations against Michael Jackson - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

On January 25, 1994 the Chandler's lawsuit was settled out of court with $15.3 million to be held in a trust fund for Jordan,[33] $1.5 million for each of his parents[34] and the family's lawyer slated to receive $3 million based on a September 1993 retainer,[35] for a total of $21 million (or according to CNN, $5 million for a total of $23 million).[34] Jackson's insurance company "negotiated and paid the settlement over the protests of Mr. Jackson and his personal legal counsel" and was "the source of the settlement amounts"; as noted in People v. Jackson in 2005.[36] A number of precedents in California had established the right for an insurer to control the settling of claims covered by the insurance without interference from the insured.[36] Overturning a precedent involves convincing a court to overrule the precedent, if it has the power to do so,[37] or convincing it to distinguish the case.[38] In 2004, Jackson's attorney Thomas Mesereau said, "People who intended to earn millions of dollars from his record and music promotions did not want negative publicity from these lawsuits interfering with their profits...Mr. Jackson now realizes the advice he received was wrong."[39] The settlement did not prevent the Chandlers from sharing information about the case in a criminal investigation or testifying in criminal trial.[40][41] The criminal investigation continued. Police investigating in two different counties never pressed charges.[42][43] Grand juries in Santa Barbara County and Los Angeles County before and after the settlement refused to indict Jackson.[26][44][45] After Jordan Chandler refused to testify in criminal proceedings, the state closed its criminal investigation citing lack of evidence on September 22, 1994.[46] Sneddon said two other possible victims had been identified out of 400 witnesses interviewed, but one was in therapy and asked not to be involved and the other was out of the country and had made a "general denial" of wrongdoing by Jackson.[46] In June 1994, prosecutors and detectives had flew to Australia to again question Wade Robson who said he had slept in the same bed as Jackson and again he said nothing bad happened.[43] Jackson's support amongst the public began to waver, and his public image was tarnished to a degree.
