I don't see this law lasting long. From what I hear, people are already breaking the rules in droves, and I doubt the cops are going to give that much of a **** about it considering that there are typically far more important things going on. Regardless, I still love New York. One silly law isn't going to change that.

Doesn't seem to stop the dozens of people I pass by on the street every day smoking it up.

I went to Coney Island two days ago. For the first time in years the beach was not (completely) littered with cigarettes.

perhaps they should be worrying about more important things in NYC, like their medical waste etc washing up on the shores of jersey.

I think this is exactly right. To be honest, I think there is better argument for banning smoking outside in public than there is on private property such as a private business. But you nailed the real solution. You didn't go into such places. Consumer demand, places will respond. Before our commie smoking ban which trampled property rights even further into the ground, we had non-smoking and smoking bars and most of the restaurants had gone non-smoking by their own free will.

I support the smoking ban. I'm an asthmatic and when people are smoking around me I have asthmatic reactions. It's not healthy for others or for the user. The can smoke in the privacy of their own home, but not in public where others may be affected.

What are you smoking? Because you must be smoking something if you actually believe this statement...

I have never smoked and I absolutely abhor the smell of the garbage and certainly don't want it around my children...

Again where the hell are out of towners suppose to legally smoke? We cannot do it in hotels, eating places, bars, etc. and now cannot smoke in the parks? Honestly I would not visit NY as I would be scared to ignore the laws of lighting up and be fined. I think if they first catch ypou it is like $50. If you keep smoking it goes up to like $250? For smoking in public? Give me a damn break and invest in some damn smoking areas NY!

BTW, if we are in public you can walk away from smokers. You do not have to stand there. You think I like the way a lot of folks crappy cheap perfume smells? No. But I deal and go on about my biz and life

Then perhaps you should stop smoking... and as for "standing there", sometimes we HAVE to go through the poison clouds you weed addicts produce. Poison clouds around the entrances of buildings or on narrow walkways in urban areas. And if my family and I are parked on the beach and have been there for the morning and we are eating lunch, why should WE have to move so you and your cancer stick addict friends can pollute the air and likely leave your BUTTS on the sand for everyone to see... no way. You do not have the right to smoke anywhere you wish, you simply do not. It is NOT a Constitutional right to smoke in the presence of everyone else... and thank goodness for bans on smoking in hotels and cabs. I HATE the smell of a hotel room or a cab that someone has smoked in. Downright disgusting...

I once said I would be your biggest cheerleader in your effort to lose weight and get into shape, but you have to give up those ciggies and have a tough break-up with your love Nikki before you honestly can become more healthy and fit...
