NYC judge allows lawsuit against Huffington Post

NEW YORK (AP) -- A judge on Tuesday refused to throw out a lawsuit by two Democratic political consultants who allege that The Huffington Post's founders stole the idea for the online news website from them.

Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Charles E. Ramos denied a motion by lawyers for the media company to dismiss the lawsuit, meaning that the case will now likely move to the discovery phase of fact-finding by both sides.

Consultants Peter Daou and James Boyce sued in November 2010, alleging they had originally come up with the plan for the site's blend of blogs by prominent contributors, news aggregation and original content.

Daou and Boyce said they discussed their plans with Huffington Post co-founders Arianna Huffington and Kenneth Lerer in 2004, and believed they were partners. The two consultants claimed they were cut out of the deal after the co-founders raised millions of dollars to launch and develop the site. They seek unspecified damages.

This seems to me like suing Michael Bay because he "stole the idea" for movies featuring unnecessary explosions.

Yeah...them and a thousand other people. The Huffington Post works basically the same way as lots of other blogs/aggregators, it just does it better. There was nothing especially original about their idea.

Daou and Boyce said they discussed their plans with Huffington Post co-founders Arianna Huffington and Kenneth Lerer in 2004, and believed they were partners. People like this piss me off. If it was such a big deal, they should have sued years ago, BEFORE the Huffington Post became so successful. I hate it when these kind of parasites come out of the woodwork years later, after a business has established itself.

I wonder how it was proposed? Hmm: "Hey Arianna let's build a new website that specializes Radical Left Wing politics and we will never tell anyone anything close too the truth about fellow Lefties?"

    Yeah, that sounds about right.

I have read what she has written a couple of tomes and have to say I am so happy that she can write with an accent so I could actually understand what she wrote. Unfortunately it still didn't make much sense.

Sounds like these “co-founders” became expendable once the Soros money started rolling in.

It obviously isn’t about “ideas” because everyone knows there isn’t anything “new” about the Huff. or its format.

Any lawyers in here who can tell us whether Huffington will have to pay out of her sale price to AwOL or will the new owner have to pay if the screwed co-founders win?
