    Putin to Retake the Presidency

ah, this guy. He never fails to disappoint. always remember, you can take Putin out of the KGB..... but you can never take the KGB out of Putin.

RUSSIAN Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has decided to run for the presidency next year, raising the possibility of a power struggle with his protege Dmitry Medvedev, the incumbent Kremlin leader, say highly placed sources...
    Bye-Bye, Dmitry.

Re: Putin to Retake the Presidency

A lot of the business elite would prefer a Medvedev presidency, because they view Putin as fostering (and perhaps participating in) corruption. Russia has a whole crapload of long-term problems, and much of the elite views Putin as being part of the problem rather than part of the solution. Medvedev is considered more of a reformer...if not for democracy, then at least for transparency and free markets.

If the two end up running against each other, Putin controls more of the apparatus that will enable him to rig elections (and might command enough popular support to win anyway), but Medvedev will probably get more corporate money unless the oligarchs conclude that a Putin victory is a foregone conclusion.

So a Russian strongman never really intended to give up the reins of power?

    I'm shocked! Shocked!

Putin is potentially very dangerous because like Obama, he thinks he's special, and that kind of person in a position of relative power can be go off his nut without much warning.

More than half of the images I looked at of Putin he had the very same glare in his eyes.

And this folks, is an official example of obama derangement syndrome.

In no way at all, is it nessecary to bring Obama into this, but there it is.

Isn't that what dictators have always said, wherever they are? God preserve us from strong leaders.
