    on attraction:

as most of you know, I have two adopted sons that are black. we don't spend tons of time discussing racial issues. we tend to deal with them as they come up or as the boys have questions. I myself find a wide variety of females attractive. skin color is the least important variable. I have seen some very attractive women who were very dark skinned. both my boys are teenagers now and the subject of girls comes up quite frequently.

neither of my sons finds black girls attractive. neither one finds redheads attractive (I am a BIG fan of redheads) the younger one (13) seems partial to blondes and the older one (almost 16) seems to have a thing for the asian girls.

I don't see how this can be a "cultural" thing since I have always expressed a diverse sense of what I thought was attractive since they were both younger.

Exactly.. Attraction is a very persoanl thing, and I will concede that at maybe some level there might be some cultural influence involved, but not sure to which, if any degree.

So we're agreeing that attraction is largely an inherent personality trait?

But no one was teaching it in the first place. It's a big government solution to a problem that doesn't exist.

You're a little late to this game, Navy.

Why stop there? Parents should teach about slavery if they see fit to do so. Parents should teach about war if they see fit to do so. Parents should teach about genocide if they see fit to do so. In fact, schools should not teach any history or current events, that should be left entirely to parents. There is no more basis for schools to teach children that slavery, war, genocide, etc. exist in the world than there is to teach them that gays exist.

To compare something as deeply personal as sexuality to any of the topics you mentioned does a disservice to all those subjects, including sexuality.

Just not Oscar Wilde or Walt Whitman. Oh, and when you're teaching writing, if the child happens to have a family member who is gay, they shouldn't write about him or her. Oh, but then, the teacher can't tell the student not to write about gay family members, because it's now illegal for her to say "gay".

In fact, you can't even discuss this bill because the bill itself would be illegal to discuss because it deals with homosexuality.
