Capitalization amortization and R&D tax breaks that every other business gets to spur innovation and keep equipment up to date. Am I close?

ding, ding, ding......You get the prize.

It is only disingenuous language that allows the liberals to go after one of their hated industries with taxation practice that is allowed to every other business in America, and call that a subsidy to just one industry.

The bastardization of the language is deplorable these days.

So explain to me why gas here costs something like half of what it does everywhere else?
For: legalizing drugs, gay marriage, abortion, guns, universal health care, public sector jobs, nuclear power, free education, progressive taxation
Against: corporations, make-work, the 40 hour work week, intellectual property, imperialism, "homeland security," censorship

Because it's not true. There are many places where gas is cheaper than it is here, and many where it's more expensive. Looks like we're about in the middle.

    Country Price per gallon USD
    Spain $8.10
    Peru $6.09
    Uruguay $6.06
    Chile $4.81
    Columbia $4.05
    Honduras $4.05
    Brazil $3.12
    Cuba $3.03
    Nicaragua $2.61
    Argentina $2.40
    Mexico $2.35
    Panama $2.19
    Puerto Rico $1.74
    Venezuela $0.12

SpanishDict Blog | $0.12 per Gallon of Gas in Venezuela!

And why is it so expensive in Europe? The gas taxes.

Although the price of raw gas is about the same for both the U.S. and European countries, the tax on gasoline is much higher in Europe (France leads with a 70% gas tax).

Maybe you should talk to your state and local politicos and ask them about gasoline taxes, and any other tax that is attached to gasoline, or levied upon establishments that sell gasoline and are passing that cost onto you. Just a thought.

Part of it is that trades involving oil commodities are done with the dollar. Go look up the danger of the value of the dollar slipping and exchanges taking place with say, the Deutsche mark instead. Our price would go up a dollar overnight.

WASHINGTON -- Seeking to address mounting criticism over high gas prices, President Obama is directing his administration to ramp up U.S. oil production by extending existing leases in the Gulf of Mexico and off Alaska's coast and holding more frequent lease sales in a federal petroleum reserve in Alaska.

    snip

His announcement followed passage in the Republican-controlled House of three bills -- including two this week -- that would expand and speed up offshore oil and gas drilling. Republicans say the bills are aimed at easing gasoline costs, but they also acknowledge that won't be immediate
I believe I'm on the record on this site saying that there was going to be a ramping up of oil production in north America as oil prices go up... But not so much to ease price as it's intended to cut off the flow of money to the middle east.

I went so far as listing some of the new reserves that are on the verge of getting tapped.
