Turkey risked clashes with Col. Moammar Gadhafi’s forces to carry out a rescue operation from the rebel-held Libyan city of Misrata in early April, the Hürriyet Daily News has learned from diplomatic sources.

The Ankara ferry sailed from Turkey’s Aegean city of İzmir to Misrata and waited for three days off the coast due to bombing by forces loyal to Gadhafi. On the fourth day, the Turkish government warned the Libyan regime to declare a cease-fire so it could evacuate the wounded, according to sources familiar to the process.
 
Good for Turkey. I strongly support Turkey's assertive efforts to safeguard its interests and people.
 
It's a reminder that our actions in Libya are not just about Libya but instead address our interests in the region as a whole.
