Considering the flak he caught when he authorized it, he chose a good time to take this shot.

I think if they had solid damning proof that he was helping the Times Square bomber or Christmas one then it qualifies the treason charges.

I'm pretty sure they had e-mails and maybe even verbal acknowledgement of his involvement in mentoring the Ft. Hood shooter.

Why would killing the AQ Number 3 be different from OBL?

I guess because OBL wasn't a US citizen??

Al-Awlaki should be tried in-absentia for treason. Some judicial oversight is better than no judicial oversight when it comes to assassinating American citizens.

What difference does that make when they were both implicated in killing thousands of American citizens?

Why should he get a trial and OBL a hit squad?

Good point. At what point does an American citizen stop being a criminal, and start being an enemy of the state?
Nobody who wins a war indulges in a bifurcated definition of victory. War is a political act; victory and defeat have meaning only in political terms. A country incapable of achieving its political objectives at an acceptable cost is losing the war, regardless of battlefield events.

Bifurcating victory (e.g. winning militarily, losing politically) is a useful salve for defeated armies. The "stab in the back" narrative helped take the sting out of failure for German generals after WWI and their American counterparts after Vietnam.

All the same, it's nonsense. To paraphrase Vince Lombardi, show me a political loser, and I'll show you a loser.

To me it makes none, so I can't give you a good answer.

    I'd be okay with that.
