Obama Says He Will Not Release Bin Laden Photo

So because he won't release the photos he deserves nor credit? I don't remember much dithering. I remember them making an official announcement not to do so. Can you please show me where Obama dithered on the issue?

Where did i say he receives no credit??

The dithering is shown in the article which inspired this thread, and we have the knowledge that Osama had already been dead long before the official announcement of his death was released to the public. It should have been made clear at the beginning that the photos would not be released and the reasons given.

What I did say is that he is squandering the credit he initially received. You can see that by the comments here, in the mainstream media and even among members of his own administration. Boldness was briefly demonstrated, now it's caution. He now makes America look weak in the eyes of their enemies.

Eventually, as in so many of his flip flops, he'll come to realize that these photos will remain controversial until they are finally released and will come to the correct conclusion. This fellow is not a leader.

And people would be calling him crass if he had shown them. He can't win. The photos will probably be leaked, but I wouldn't hold my breath on the White House officially releasing them.

The President, yes but no leader

Blackout during raid on UBL Osama bin Laden dead: Blackout during raid on bin Laden compound - Telegraph

Apparently No Helmet Cam footage!!!...This is starting to look kinda goofy

The last four paragraphs of that article certainly opens further speculation.

Maybe Hillary Clinton was right that Pakistan was cooperating but, in any case, its starting to get a Keystone Cops feel to it.

I hope some shameless politicians don't manage to sully the reputation of the Seals.

He could have won if he was forthright and simply released, with warnings, the photographs.

If he 'can't win' it's no ones fault but his own. He once had great approval ratings and the support of the American people, but then threw it all away.

I don't buy that for a second. After seeing how the whole "Birther" issue, it's clear that people will never be satisfied. As I said before, there are going to be 3 main responses from people if he were to release the photos now:

1. He should have just released these photos to begin with!!!
2. What a coward! I can't believe he would cave so easily to people's demands!
3. These photos look shopped. I can tell from some of the pixels and from seeing quite a few shops in my time.

Here we go again.... the same crap as his birth certificate kind of deal.... always creating uncertainty, and now the Libs are going to get pissed off because people are going to question whether we got Bin Laden or not and guess who they are going to blame??? the non believers or the ones who question it. What a load of crap!!! and guess who's fault it is ????
Oi, oi, oi.

Who really cares what the "birthers" have to say? They will always be among us and they should not make the POTUS nervous.

He should have just released the photos, with warnings, and then most people would have moved on. But as it is he has managed to create a debacle from a triumph in just a few days.

I don't have to see the photos, nor do i want to. But to claim he is doing it because someone might get hurt is ridiculous. It makes the American people, as well as him, look very, very weak. That is not a good thing.

Bull****. I think the fact that we stayed the course with Bin Laden and got his ass 10 years after the fact shows just how strong we are. The fact that anyone would infer that America is somehow weak because they don't release the photos of Bin Laden's corpse is complete nonsense. As with the Birther issue, there is simply no appeasing some people and releasing the photos would be no different. People need to get over the fact that they aren't releasing them and move on. We got Bin Laden and should celebrate that fact instead of tossing around this partisan nonsense that has plagued this country for so long.

Did you not read the reason why HBO would not release the photos? Does it seem to you that he is operating from of position of strength? Let's also not forget that the American people voted for Obama because he promised to leave Afghanistan, leave Iraq, close Gitmo, search for "exit strategies", etc. Does that sound like a strong and determined people to you?

Certainly you'd like everyone to move on and forget abut the photos, as would Obama, just as he'd prefer everyone to forget about his many unrealized campaign promises. But that is not the way the real world works.

Strong? Asking people to move on and fuggedaboudit is not a demonstration of strength. It is a plea to stop bullies from picking on you.

He also promised to kill Osama Bin Laden, which he delivered on. People keep conveniently forgetting that.

No, I think people should move on because it's a minor issue. They've denied release of the photos, get over it. If you are really that desperate to wank off to some gory photos, just wait until WikiLeaks releases them, which I'm sure they will.

I guess ones definition of strength also depends on what level of partisan hackery they are working under.

No, it's been mentioned many times. I'm pleased that this promise was kept.

It should have been a minor issue but its been bungled into a major issue. And while you can ask people to move on they won't, just as they wouldn't move on until his birth certificate was finally released. Didn't he learn anything from that?

If you seriously believe that strength, perception, and the war on terror is just a partisan issue then you are half way down the tube already.

Seems rather counterintuitive. Kinda of stupid really

A White House official says President Barack Obama will meet with some of those involved in the military assault that killed Osama bin Laden when he visits Fort Campbell, Ky., on Friday.

Why bring up, the unit of *said* assaulters??

You mean treat it like Ralphie's House, and put somehing like a Leg Lamp in the window with Fishnet Stocking?

I am glad you are able to joke about this serious matter but it will not be happening as sounds like they will be destroying the mansion/compound. This will not stop people from flocking there as everyone knows where it is now.

not the same as if he actually had a place on solid ground that held his remains.

That is very true. I think some may still build some sort of shrine or something to honor him. Guess we will see.

BTW, I think others are correct in that they (gov) are saying they will not release the pics due to various issues but that they will make sure that something is leaked to appease everyone. The gov does not wish to be the ones to say ok here are the pics. So they will leak em and blame it on something.

I don't think that the pictures should be released. At least not the way they have been described. They are absolutely gruesome and all we need is a US sanctioned released photo to become the new propaganda piece for Al-Qaeda. Not only that, but it could cause increased violence against troops if it's that violent.

You may very well be right about that. That's one very legitimate reason.

I disagree and believe they should be released, but you bring up a good point why they shouldn't.

The troops are armed and trained and we should not worry about them getting hurt. They can handle themselves, and we should not bow to the idea that the terrorists might get upset by our being honest. Once appeasing terrorists, or potential terrorists, starts the slippery slope has been reached.

It's not appeasing them. It's realizing that doing this unnecessarily will potentially put our troops at risk. That's like saying, oh, well our troops are armed and trained, so let's drop a bomb on China since they are devaluing their currency and skewing economic numbers. Our troops can handle it, right? (which they could, since at this point, Chinese military is a joke, but still) Not just that, but the last thing we need is every single Al-Qaeda member getting the damn thing as a tattoo or something. If you ask me, the best option here is not releasing the one in its current form. It is gruesome and disgusting. If there is one of his body wrapped up about to be dumped in the water, that could be considered.

I don't know whether it should be release, I cannot decide.

How is it 'putting the troops at risk'? It is the troops who are armed and dangerous, not some sad sack bunch of ever disgruntled Muslims. They're at war with the military, and civilians, already. That's what Al Qaeda is all about.

We stuck it to the "Japs" and the "Krauts" during WWII and we can mock these terrorist swine also. If we don't then we are obviously more afraid than they are, and I don't think that's a winning attitude.

Remember when that idiot decided to burn the Quran. It put our soldiers at risk. In fact, some were killed. Al-Qaida is already mad that we killed Bin Laden, but if we act like they do (barbarians) and disrespect the dead body, others may find fault with it that are not Al-Qaida and put our soldiers at risk. What is so hard to understand about that, and besides, do we want to be like them? I, frankly, do not want to become like the people in the ME, who don't have any sense of what is right and what is wrong.

Ten dead in Afghan Koran burning protests

Reuters
April 2, 2011
At least 10 people have been killed and 83 wounded in the southern Afghan city of Kandahar, officials said on Saturday, on a second day of violent protests over the burning of a Koran by a radical fundamentalist Christian in the United States.
A suicide attack also hit a NATO military base in the capital Kabul, the day after protesters over-ran a U.N. mission in the northern city of Mazar-i-Sharif and killed seven foreign staff, in the deadliest attack on the UN in Afghanistan.
Some protesters in Kandahar carried white Taliban flags and shouted slogans including “long live the Taliban” and “death to America.” In rioting that lasted hours, they smashed shops, burned tires and vandalized a girl’s high school.

How did we do that? And, your attitude is like that of kids on a baseball league - it isn't about who can say "nanny nanny booboo" the loudest. We don't have to act like idiots to know that we have a "winning" country that they envy - why they hate America so much. Aren't Republicans the ones that claim America is a Christian country? Well, Christians don't act that way.

If you think ever more appeasement is the answer you should check how that's worked in Western Europe.
