Obama Says He Will Not Release Bin Laden Photo

We are a government of/by/and for the people. This is not "transparency". hopefully a FOIA lawsuit is filed.

Very good, dittohead.

I disagree, though, one one point. I think they might name themselves Deathers instead of Proofers. It seems fitting.

I was talking with Elvis about this earlier today. he prefered proofers. But I'm OK with either. ;)

Very well.

Deathers is a better term.

From what I remember, and I maybe incorrect with finals, papers, and other things, but I believe it was Panetta, not Obama that said the photos should be released.

Deathers, proofers, nutters, any of those terms works.

Why so? We did not have multiple names for the birthers...?

Deathers is better. Why? It's cooler than "proofer". A proofer reminds me of a grammatical book editor.

Why is it disrespectful to publish a photo of a man who killed thousands, Kernel?

What he did has no bearing on the respectulness of our treatment of his corpse. Despite what he did we gave him a burial at sea and treated his body in the manner fitting his religion. That was the right thing to do, as is withholding photos of his corpse.

A picture and a piked head are not the same. The photo can be verfied with facial-recognition technology, etc. Blood would have helped.

Digital photos aren't proof of anything. Anybody who thinks we're lying about killing him would be entirely justified in thinking that any photos we could provide are faked - it's just too easy to do.

I don't think it really matters one way or another. I guess if people want to see whynot? There are hundreds of mutilated Iraqi/american/everything soldiers all over the internet, i dont really see the difference, except this guy probably deserved it more then any of the others.

What validates your conviction? How can you prove it is right, Kernel Sanders?

Deathers it is, then.

...

Dumbest thing I've ever heard. "We'll definitely release it" "No, it might make people mad we can't release it."

Dumb.. .all around dumb.

This is a great decision, Bin Laden is dead and there is no reason to show him with half his head blown away. For those people who don't think he's really dead, would say the pictures were just photoshopped.

The important thing is UBL is dead. In this age of Photoshop, I don't think a picture serves any purpose.

Praise be to Obama!

Why did you cave in to me, Dittohead?

And you, how can you prove this was a great decision, pbrauer?

It would be the dumbest thing to fake ever. It would require the biggest enemy the US has had in a long time to be in on it. If bin Laden is alive he just has to release one short video and we would look like the biggest assholes in history

Or maybe it is a brilliant addition to the Truther conspiracy theory? They say they kill him, most of us think he's dead, not one iota of proof, Usama really gets into a good hiding spot..

*I don't agree with this, but it is an entertaining notion.

Even stipulating that assinine scenario, why not just ****ing kill him?

Best solution is to make it available, for viewing only, for certain people only. Congress, military leaders, important govt. people, foreign leaders, 911 victims relatives, major news organizations. 1. You get enough acceptable transparancy. 2. You keep it from being every right wingnuts avatar.:)

Shhhh. Don't bother people with relevant facts...

It is easy to come to that decision with emotions.

Logically, we should have captured him alive and make the parrot talk, no, scream.

It is being shown to members of congress.

Though, from the article it seems that the picture was not supposed to be released. The leaked photo will certainly find its way to the web soon enough.

It would seem weird if it didn't make it to the interwebz.

I suspect that surreptitious release has all of the pleasure but none of the guilt.

It's not the NOT releasing I am bothered by.

It's the "Yes it will" then "No it won't" hem hawing. DUMB.

Why not? If it's okay for Republicans to change their mind over the individual mandate they were once for, why isn't it okay for the President to change his mind concerning releasing photos of OBL? (And for the record, Penetta speculated that "ultimately" (meaning "eventually") a picture of a dead OBL would be released. Thus, the President hadn't stated one way or another on the matter until now. Regardless...)

Just showing how both sides can play at this game of "it's my (party's) perogative to change may (our party's) mind".

Sarcasm aside, personally I think it's a mistake not to release a picture of OBL dead. Without it the only thing we have is the word of people who weren't there to see events as they unfolded. Let's look at the facts:

1. Covert special-ops led by the U.S.; no coalition forces (to maintain absolute secrecy).

2. Recent news reports stating that no one in the Situation Room, not even the President himself, actually saw OBL get shot.

3. All parties who could be witnesses including the alleged courier and his brother who led them to OBL are all dead except OBL's 4th wife and children who were present.

4. Both wife #4 and the children (actual witnesses to OBL's death) are now reportedly in the custody of Pakistan government. Hmmmm....

5. U.S. military (Navy) buries the body of OBL at sea...OBL is now swimmin' with the fishies. (I hope Jaws loves the dark meat! )

6. Photos of OBL too gruesome to release to the public; there's concern for retaliation by Muslim extremists/Al Quada remnants. (Haven't we already pissed them off more than enough? How much angrier is a photo of their dead defacto leader going to make them?)

Release a photo!

I would have accepted the wife's testimony of what happened had she'd been brought into U.S. custody, but because she's been released to the Pakistan government...again, no witnesses.

While I'm really hoping OBL's death is true, this entire situation is starting to have the makings of a classic Mafia hit..."take 'em out; dispose of the body; leave no witnesses!"

I'm usually on the President's side, but in this case I think he has it wrong. This was as important to the American people if not the world as ensuring that Hitler was dead after WWII. All not releasing a picture does is throw the issue right over into conspiracy theary circles.

... I'm waiting for Vicky to show us all where Obama said he would "definitely" release the photos.
