    Dumb.. .all around dumb.

It isn't dumb to not want to endanger our troops. It isn't dumb to not want to flamebait - even the political forums agree that flamebaiting is bad.

What is it you wish to be accomplished by showing a picture of someone with a hole in his head? I think it is a wise decision, and had been hoping that is what he would do, and as usual, he didn't disappoint me.

Those that want to believe that it isn't Bin Laden will continue to believe that no matter what, just like the birthers, now with the long form being provided are coming up with some other whiny excuse.

I think this is a very wise decision, and hopefully the picture won't be leaked, we still have troops over in the ME, and we don't want any of them killed over some idiot getting incensed to see their "leader" being disrespected! It's not out of respect for the terrorists, but rather for the safety of our own men.

It's dumb to believe that you can make our troops safer, by appeasing the enemy. It's equally dumb to think that they can hate us more than they do. If anything, appeasing the enemy only encourages him to attack our soldiers.

Geez, and this from the party that claims sensitivity? Where did it all go? Weren't conservatives going around claiming that it was insensitive to build a community center in NY in an effort to be sensitive to the victims of 9/11?

Well, we have men in the ME that will be targeted by those who followed BinLaden, and we need to be sensitive to their safety. Why pour gasoline into the fire. We've killed BinLaden, we don't need to make T-shirts and the like out of his remains - what idiocy is that? If you want to be believed (that you are sensitive), then by all means show it all the time, not just when you want your opinion to matter.

Okay, I suppose you are just trying to be funny - but really, I care for our men over there, don't want to create any more problems for them.

Killing Bin Laden endangers our troops far more then any picture.

U.S. lifts photo ban on military coffins

In a reversal of an 18-year-old military policy that critics said was hiding the ultimate cost of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the news media will now be allowed to photograph the flag-draped coffins of America’s war dead as their bodies are returned to the United States, but only if the families of the dead agree.

The decision, which Defense Secretary Robert Gates announced Thursday, lifts a 1991 blanket ban on such photographs put in place under President George Bush. It chiefly affects coffins arriving from Iraq and Afghanistan that go through Dover Air Force Base in Delaware.

The military said the ban protected the privacy and dignity of families of the dead. But others, including some of the families as well as opponents of the Iraq war, said it sanitized the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and was intended to control public anger over the conflicts.

Last time I checked Gates works for Obummer.

I thought this was very interesting. So it's ok to photograph all the coffins of the dead soldiers, but protect Osamas privacy.

    Good job, you idiot-n-chief.

I love how some folks claim I said Obama said anything, I'm referring to the entire situation.

Panetta comes out saying they'll most likely be released, then Obama says no let's not piss anyone off..

It's the hem hawing that went on, publicly, DUMB. I also highly disagree with the basis being "it will endanger our troops..."

Killing the man did that, pictures won't make a difference, it's silly. Besides, it'll leak out in due time.

I'm sure that AlQaida has been aware that BinLaden was wanted, why his whereabouts were so carefully guarded. That we were able to find him and kill him is no surprise to them.

But, parading the picture of the dead OBL is just adding fuel to the fire and it serves no purpose. Those that take satisfaction in having the picture published have no sensitivity toward our troops.

Maybe Panetta's Republican roots took over - act before you think?

Well, Panetta shouldn't have said that they would be released before checking with the President, who has the say so. And, who cares that it annoyed you that they said they would show them and then Obama said no. The point is that we don't want to act like the ME - they would certainly have posted the pictures and danced in the streets (although we did do that) - but let's not come down to their level.

I'm sure they were upset over the killing of OBL, but surely they knew that was a possibility, otherwise why did they go to such lengths to protect him? There is a thin line between doing what is right and then getting carried away. Showing pictures of the dead body serves no purpose. What does it do for you?

Re: Obama Says He Will Not Release Bin Laden Photo

Good lord, this is stupid. I even saw Sarah Palin's Twitter on the subject as well. I'm sure it would send a powerful message to our enemies, but didn't killing him send a pretty powerful message? It's ten years later and we didn't just give up on hunting that bastard, we kept on him and didn't forget. Now, he is dead and at least a semblance of justice has been served. It's not really that surprising in this age of reality TV and sensationalism that people would find him not showing the photo as being anti-climactic. Honestly, though, what purpose does would it serve? This is yet another case of 'damned if you do and damned if you don't'. I'm sure that if they had shown the photo, he would be attacked by people for being crass. Do people really need to see a picture of the guy to fulfill some kind of twisted blood lust fetish? Can't you look at the fake photo and wank off to that instead? Or is it that people don't believe the guy is dead and that this is some massive cover up? Honestly, what is the reason?
