Bush declines Obama invitation to go to ground zero

Why is obama coming to the city again?

Really i don't get it.

The day was ours, but no song will be sung.

Yes, mr. President you gave the go order. That still won't bring those i lost back. Your pressense is not needed nor does it sit right. A little creepy even.

For what purpose?

Obama isn't allowed to remember those that were lost, and celebrate the bringing of the guy responsible to justice?

Oh and :lamo at hazlnut speculating who socom operators would want to hang out with. :lamo

/facepalm

This is that?

We have sept 11th. Come on down...

Thursday feels like he's making a parade for himself....

The more he makes of it the more he adds to the mythology and folklore of usama bin laden.

You kill the enemy without emotion and you move on. Obl was a dispicable human being. Why give him the pomp and circumstance over and over again.

Sounds unpatriotic & unAmerican to me, but hey, Osama was Bush's best buddy, so Bush is probably depressed to lose his old friend, after spending 8 years protecting Osama's whereabouts. That million dollar pad didn't build itself, if you get the drift.

That is beyond stupid

It wouldn't have been Obama. I know enough about this subject to understand how things work

I didn't blame Clinton for not "catching" Eric Rudolph nor did I praise Bush was Rudolph being captured on his watch

Oh really, how did that work out for Carter when our helicopters crashed killing 8 soldiers in the failed attempt to rescue the hostages in Iran.

This led to the development of seal team six....

Fact there was only a couple of seal teams, six was to mislead the ruskies as to how many we had. :prof

Why not invite Jimmy Carter, George Herbert Bush, Bill Clinton and all descendants of former presidnets. This was done (after ten years of hunting for one sick man) under Obama's administration. Clear?! If we don't use this as a step go get the hell out of Afghanistan then we never will leave. All stated goals have now been achieved-get out now!!

Bush declines Obama invitation to go to ground zero

I guess he has brush to clear...

I say send a Seal team to the ranch, pick W. up, and bring him to Manhattan.

I totally get that. "The King is dead. Long live the King."

I've held two very high-profile positions in my life...a political one for four years, a nonprofit job for six. In both instances, I was front and center, so to speak. I had to watch what I said and did every minute of every day. In each case, when I left those positions, I was "done." I no longer wanted that scrutiny. In one way, it was someone else's turn. In another, I was damn tired of being the center of attention - and, sometimes, controversy.

Bill clinton also declined..... Lets see hazlnut's comments on that.

What I can't figure out about the Libertarians and the far-righties... They don't want Government to provide handouts, but they still say Obama owes people a job... Very strange.

I just can't figure out why liberals still don't know that Obama's policies are killing jobs.

Bill Clinton is a Dem.

The point of inviting Bush was to show unity and give credit.

Did you not understand that??

Bush doesn't want any credit and is not egotistical like Obama. Bush is done with politics he knows that Obama is a two faced dork.

Sure, because the majority is always right. ;)

I liked it when bush went to Ground Zero too. There was a lot of hurt and fear and confusion and anger, and he had some strong words of encouragement. What he said left me feeling like he was on top of it and that something was getting done about what happened.

I'm not interested in seeing the President make another speech on an otherwise insignificant day. He had his national address when it happened, if he wants to mention it in September that's fine, but there's no reason whatsoever to make a special trek out to New York months in advance.

At any rate, unless by "still suffering" you mean the ones who are struggling with chronic health problems they picked up by breathing the air that day, I don't give a damn at this point. It's been almost a decade, for crying out loud.

By still suffering... I was mostly talking about the families and children the victims of 9/11 left behind, and also the survivors dealing with health affects of course. For some people, it's still a very painful wound and many of them probably suffer depression, anxiety, or PTSD in addition to health issues. I see nothing wrong with the president trying to talk to them and join in their celebration or understand where they are today. I think seeing NYC rebuild and people heal is part of our reliance.

All your silly sarcasm and facepalming might go over big in the basement, but up here, where the adults talk, you better come up with a real rebuttal.

Why don't you actually try to debate the points I made...???

The liar and failure vs. the current CIC.

Rummy, Cheney and therefore Bush did not have the respect of the military commanders. That trickles down to the soldiers. Iraq was FUBAR. 4,000 needless deaths because of a weakling being manipulated by his V.P. and other advisors with various agendas. By the time Bush realized how bad he had screwed up, Iraq was overrun with insurgents, the oil fields and contracts where not paying off, the debt was piling up... You think the soldiers were not aware of how far their cic had mislead them??

The Peter Principle = "in a hierarchy every employee tends to rise to his level of incompetence" -- Incompetence trickles down. Bush had so many bad advisors pushed on him, so many bad agendas, he wasn't bright enough to see he was being manipulated by very powerful business interests. First term was textbook puppetry.

Re: Obama - the reaction Sunday night outside the WH and at Ground Zero says it all. We have a CIC who actually leads.

I would have went if I were him.

Are you saying your offended that he is going to NYC?

Is it democratic party wankery, or is it just a few people on the board here. As a member of the democratic party, I don't think I was wanking any.

I'm not registered as a Dem or Rep... But as an independent, I have to say, your response, not wanting to take a stand or get on someone's bad side is pretty representative of the current Dems.

I would have loved to see both Bush and Obama standing at ground zero, shaking hands and congratulating each other on job well done. Bring the country toward a pragmatic unified middle. I'm disappointed that Bush didn't see that potential.

I think GOP advisors told Bush not to go -- so close to an election year -- again, Bush did what he was told.

I'm pretty sure that the GOP isn't a position to tell Bush what to do, and I'm pretty sure he knows it.

He's been laying low pretty much this whole time, so it's not like he's suddenly changing his tune or anything.

You know what? AS much as I would like to say a liberal won this pissing match, the truth is that it was simply that the opportunity came along with Obama president. Obama really only gets credit in that he was the president when the opportunity came along.

the opportunity did arise........but obama took a huge chance in ordering the operation. i give him credit for having the balls to order it.......

When I said this is Obama's victory, I was being kind of tongue in cheek (which doesn't translate well online). The general public is going to think that Obama is the man of the hour. Keen observers will know better but... you have to think of this on a simpler level when it comes to the masses.

the end result is obama ordered a risky operation without consideration of what failure would have done to him politically.
