Where was Bush eight years long, Obama made his job for two years!

The fact this big of a deal has been made over something as benign and understandable as Obama laying a wreath at ground zero and speaking with some fireman just boggles my mind. Yes, with it clearly election season, if he went up there trying to give a long speech that sounded more like a campaign event than words from the President I'd understand the uproar. But he didn't make a giant deal out of it (it became a bigger deal BECAUSE people focused on it in a complaining fashion), he didn't make some long campaign speech, he simply did some very simple actions of respect and went about his day. Seriously, there's nothing to criticize here.

Re: Bush declines Obama invitation to go to ground zero

As I stated earlier, in an ironic twist of fate, I went down to NYC to stand in place of my cousin who lost his father, my Uncle, When my aunt asked me, I could not say no, and would proudly stand for my cousin, who is serving overseas right now. My aunt was one of the select group that was to meet with the president.

And all I'd like to say about my experience here, is I was wrong, He came, he respected the fallen, and he met graciously with the families, I can not fault the man with that. There was this woman, who asked him something, and seemed angry and upset, Obama looked uncomfortable, said something and turned away, other than that it was a rather emotional affair, one that I think he truly took to heart. So twice now, I tip my hat to the man, his trip was one about respect and remembrance. I respect him for it. Now this doesn't mean I agree with most of his ideas and things he has done, but on this day, I saw a gracious President, being, well very presidential and human at the same time.

That's all I got to say about it today, it's corona light day as well, and there is drinking to be done.

That's cool of you Rev. I am glad you got to be there for your cousin, and you found the entire ceremony to be a positive chapter in that part of our history, your family legacy, and you personally.

Actually Bill Clinton was invited to. Both said they had scheduling conflicts.

In theory, some of those loopholes were understandable, but in practice they sometimes made it possible for millionaires to pay nothing, while a bus driver was paying ten percent of his salary, and that’s crazy." -Reagan

Sadly, i would have to strongly disagree with you there. Obama played a chess match leading up to this event, and he played every card right and made some very tough decisions which lead up to the events of making this happen. It was not something that was just given to him. I highly doubt many presidents in American history would gamble with their re-elections when it came to something like this. The opportunity came along because he made his own opportunity, which was not given.

Yes I fear that many presidents when they are being told that we know where Osama bin Laden is and that there is now a military plan to go in and take him out that many would say no. I mean why would they want to go get the person that attacked the United States.

look... President Obama was being respectful of President Bush and his role in making this happen and invited him. President Bush, respectful of President Obama's current role and of the fact that he really doesn't want to be involved, respectfully declines. Why does everyone have to get into an infantile pissing match over it? Really!?
