The dude is retired. He wants to stay home. I don't see how this is an issue.

Not directed specifically at you Rev, but if Obama didn't go....you'd have a whole uproar from the right-wing saying that Obama doesn't care and should have gone. As with everything else, OBama is damned if he does, damned if he doesn't in the rhetoric of the right.

Again, they are a diverse bunch. I saw plenty on the news saying they were happy with the news, and thanked Bush and Obama for their work in making this day a reality. One woman lost her sister, and says she looks forward to the trial of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed next.

No one person speaks for that entire group of people. Stop trying to pretend otherwise.

I'm not. I am telling you though the media is selling you a very skewed story. this one happened to me, people I know, people I know who know, etc.... I could probably name close to 100 people that I knew, or knew of through others who died that day, add in a couple customers of mine and that number goes north.

I'm just telling you, it's not as rosey as you see it on the TV.

And I would be there stating damn right he shouldn't go and I would defend him against anyone who attacked him for not going.

Again, for what purpose is he going? It's like he's having a parade for himself.

Maybe he is going to set the official record straight on all the conflicting reports, and give praise to the Navy Seals... May he is going to celebrate like all the other Americans did that day. Tell me Rev, do you find it offensive that Americans went to Ground Zero when they heard the news and waved a flag? Was that insulting to families?

Whatever the president does, I think he should go off the cuff and talk to the people without a prompter and tell us how he sees the future of the War of Terror and what the next goals are. I don't care if he does that at Ground Zero or not, but he is president and the leader. He made the call, and he should be more open with the facts than he has already. His speech was pretty much scripted that night. I expect more.

    Why do you assume that?

Honestly, I think he is going there because that is what the American people expect him to do. I think he would be highly criticized if after the US captured and killed the man that brought down the towers, if he didn't go to one of the sites and address the country. I think that most of the country not only expect him to do it, it is what they want him to do.

In a sad kinda way, its almost like a victory parade after the world series....its not really for the players so much as it is for the fans. I think people would be very upset if he didn't mark the occasion by going to ground zero. Obama's job is going to have to be to do it as respectfully and honorable as he possible can because there are going to be a great many Americans who want to celebrate.

I mean...why did Bush go to ground zero and make a speech after the attacks? He could have done it from the whitehouse, but the people wanted him to be there.

Why can't he do that now, from the oval office, at prime time? Why does he think he needs to come to new york and tell us he knows how we feel?

I think it was a bit naive. We killed a horrible horrible man. That should have been it. as I said, the battle that day was won, but there will be no songs..... We who lost, still lost, and the death of one man won't stop the wolves from trying again.

I agree with this whole heartedly, I don't think the pit, (that's what we called "ground zero", back then), is the right place for this. And dragging it out to thursday? I mean come on, all it's doing is building up the folklore the enemy will use to intice new idiots into thier ideals.

not smart. Kill him and be done, this pomp and circumstance is not who we are.

the pentagon was hit too. I think he should have made his statement on the kill and moved on, right now he's giving power to OBL's death to our enemies.
