The death of Osama bin Laden is an enormous and immediate political victory for President Obama, who has faced periodic criticism for his handling of the fight against al Qaeda and struggles to resolve the conflict in Afghanistan.
I have seen a couple of polls since this article came out, and it does look like Obama is getting a huge boost in his ratings. But to the Democrats, I say don't take these results to the bank. Bush had a similar jump in ratings, after catching Hussein, yet his poll numbers pancaked to as low as 26% before he left office. The same could very well happen to Obama if he screws up on other issues any more than he has already. 2012 is still a long ways off, and we still have enormous economic problems ahead of us. So yes, let's revel in the moment, then let's get back to work on the serious issues still facing us.
