From the Vancouver Sun:

Conservative leader Stephen Harper's long-running quest to attain a majority government was finally achieved Monday in a landmark federal election that also saw Jack Layton's NDP surge dramatically to become the country's official Opposition for the first time in that party's history.

Two other leaders — Michael Ignatieff of the Liberals and Gilles Duceppe of the Bloc Quebecois — meanwhile, went down to defeat, while Green party leader Elizabeth May won her seat in Parliament.

After heading a minority government, Stephen Harper gained a majority in the House of Commons for the first time. For those who are interested, a short biography on Canada's Prime Minister can be found at:

I for one look foreword ti see if this will make them needed changes to improve their Government ad shoe the US what we need to do yo get on track to economic recovery.

we all know that we are on the wrong track now, because Liberals learn nothing from history.
Tax and over spend is stuoid and makes no sinse but they are taught to ignore reality and go with the ideology.

Re: PM Harper 'humbled' by majority; Layton in Opposition; Ignatieff, Duceppe lose th

this is a huge story

the tide in canada today is even taller than the one we all witnessed here on tsunami tuesday, last nov 2

the parties of the left, the libs and bloc quebecois, were "decimated," suffering "monumental collapse," facing "utter devastation" even in liberal bastions on the atlantic, in quebec and ontario

PM Harper 'humbled' by majority; Layton in Opposition; Ignatieff, Duceppe lose their seats

conservatives look to hold 166 seats north of the parallel, the new opposition ndp "surged dramatically" to 104

liberals, who were 77 in parliament heading in, now are 34

the bloc went from 47 to 3

and after yesterday's plebiscite, there's only one lonely green in the govt

running on universal health care and a "family pack" program that promised protection of seniors and affordability of student loans (sound familiar?) turned out historically unsuccessful for the left in maple leaf land

just the facts, maam

ie, no spin, lynn

Interesting the New Communist Party is the "loyal opposition".
