Nato strike kills Gaddafi son

Nato still hasn't confirmed the deaths.

if this is true then the problem i have with this is that a NATO strike was specifically aimed at a private residence. this air-strike on his home during a family gathering (killing young children), is an obvious sign that NATO's aim is to kill Gaddafi - ie regime change - and not to 'protect civilians'- which is far from the remit of the UN resolution.

clearly 'protecting civillians' is not the number one priority.

I clarified this on page 2 i think.
His youngest son, 29, I think, and three grandchildren. Now, collectively we are all murderers. Armed thugs initiated violence and killing in Libya and we helped them. This against the African Nation with the highest standard of living on the Continent. Free food, free housing, free healhcare, free education and we are going to improve on that. Look around you. We are murderers. The war is about OIL. Perhaps to make sure sales of Libyan oil are not changed to another currency instead of the dollar. Perhaps because of Qaddaffi's talk of nationalizing the OIL. Perhaps we have an IOU to Britain and Europe for their help in Iraq and we help them get control of this OIL, but one thing you can be absolutely certain of is that this war is not about freedom, liberty, democracy, justice and the other media buzzwords you are being bombarded with. Seek out honest reporting. Remember that if your media is supported by Corporate sponsorship, then it is unlikely that you will hear the people's perspective.

Im sure he will be missed...next up! Daddy

I think it's quite clear at this point that the original mandate of "enforcing a no-fly zone" has been exceeded.

Gadaffis gonna go nuts tonight.

A lot of people are gonna die today in retaliation.

There has been an unofficial cease fire in effect for 10 days inside Misrata.

"Libyan officials have said in the past two days that the military is pulling back in Misrata, ostensibly to enable tribal chiefs from the area to negotiate with the rebels. Late Saturday, Deputy Foreign Minister Khaled Kaim said troops remained in their positions in the city, but claimed they halted all activity."

.

"It also drew criticism from Russia, which accused the alliance of going beyond its U.N. mandate to protect Libyan civilians by trying to kill Gadhafi. "More and more facts indicate that the aim of the anti-Libyan coalition is the physical destruction of Gadhafi," said Konstantin Kosachyov, a Russian lawmaker who often serves as a mouthpiece for the Kremlin's views on foreign affairs."

That's rubbish. The fact that you are calling the coalition murderers without a single mention of Gaddafi and what he is doing over there is ludicrous and misguided, and your reference to people who are fighting for political liberation as "armed thugs" is Libyan dictatorship propaganda.

We are there for a valid reason; to protect innocent civilians from the onslaught of tyranny, to help these oppressed men achieve Democracy and prosperity, to prevent genocide on fellow human beings. Remember, we went in reluctantly and only because we have Arab support; this has nothing to do with oil, baseless conspiracy theories have no room in reality.

We are fighting the good fight. We need to remember that Gadaffi has taken away hundreds of children from weeping mothers and fathers. There is no mercy for the wicked.

Ass Clowns? You best go sit your ass clown down talking this ass clown mess:roll:

I couldn't kill kids in cold blood and I couldn't order someone else to do it either.

Have a nice day :)

fighting the good fight doesn't include deliberately targeting children and the children were not "the wicked". what was the children's crime again?

they targeted a family home and that is not ok. children live in family homes.

DELIBERATELY targeting children? Is it fashionable now to make baseless and stupid accusations over on that side of the Atlantic?

Where is your evidence, miss serenity. Curios to see what you come up with. Intrigued to know how the Americans knew the children where in that room at that particular time. Let's see what you got.

Don't lump Serenity and Fagan in with us. We never knew them.

who the **** do you think you are? do you always make personal attacks to people who reply to your posts? and what side of the atlantic might that be[/QUOTE]

didn't a NATO warplane fire a missile into the private residence of Saif al-Arab Gaddafi? he has children. are you trying to suggest that NATO knew that Gadaffi was going to visit his son that night and that the children wouldn't be at home?

It was an observation, NOT a personal attack.

Are you nuts? The purpose of the air force is to destroy all C3I (command, control, communications and intelligence) networks. It is well established that the residence was providing a significant operative advantage to government forces and it was where intelligence and frontline command was being executed.

Killing Muammer or any children is NOT a NATO objective and i can draw this conclusion from the fact that such an error is a HUGE strategic mistake. It's golden propaganda for the Libyan regime and it's something that he has used before to divide his enemies and win support.

NATO isn't stupid - we know from Iraq that there is no silver bullet, killing Muammer will not achieve anything and to suggest innocent children was deliberately targeted is just false propaganda that actually makes no sense from a logistical point of view. Again, you fail to provide evidence of your absurd claims.

perhaps you could explain then how firing a missile into a family home where there were children was not putting their lives at risk.

it was more of a sensation - that some people always make victims of our opponents simply because we beat them, and irrespective of who or what they are.

Except that we didn't beat them. Gadaffi is still in power, still killing other people's children. There is a possibility, in fact, that he made this story up in order to gain sympathy. Osama Bin Laden is still alive and free, and no doubt still working on terrorist attacks.

Why is that?

Could the answer be in Manc Skipper's sig line?

The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.

How could NATO confirm? Do they have access to that area. I would think that the only thing they could confirm is the attack, not the deaths and injuries.

I think it is disgusting that some are celebrating the death of the young children but I guess whatever works for your political agenda.

.

It mean's you are clearly part of the sizeable minority who base arguments based on crystal ball non-facts in the US political scene.

perhaps you could explain then how firing a missile into a family home where there were children was not putting their lives at risk.

Perhaps you could explain to me how NATO could possibly know that Muammer was there at the time and is stupid enough to keep his family housed in a major CI3 hub and NATO target (which was bombed by Reagan before for the exact same purposes)?

His residence is huge and he left unhurt. So i still don't know how NATO has established the particular room that children where in, so that they could waste bombs killing non-essential targets? The agenda/goal behind such an action? There is none, none to even base a decent conspiracy on.

NATO could confirm once they been independently confirmed which i don't believe they have been as yet.

agreed.

Does the US or any other country have the right to determine who is in charge of another nation (that they haven't defeated in war)?

Exactly when did, Gaddafi become accountable to Obama's *political scene*?

Does the US or any other country have the right to determine who is in charge of another nation... ?

No. The people should decide, that's why we're in Libya.

agreed.
Independently by whom? If it is confirmed independently, why do you need NATO to confirm the confirmation?

No nation has that right, but the choice wasn't made by the US. It was made by the Libyan people. We aren't there to overthrow the regime, we are there to fulfill the obligations of UN resolution 1973.

EDIT: Even if this wasn't the case this isn't a US led effort, this is a European led effort. Why this means the US is dictating other nations internal policies is beyond me. This war is being kept at arms length for the US administration.
