Americans say Republicans in Congress would do a better job than Democrats in dealing with the U.S. budget, according to a poll released Friday that shows President Barack Obama's party at a disadvantage as lawmakers near another showdown over federal spending.

The poll's findings underscore the challenge facing Obama as he seeks public support for his proposals for tackling a growing U.S. budget deficit — an issue that could play a key role in the president's efforts to win re-election in 2012.

The USA Today/Gallup survey of 1,013 U.S. adults looked at whether Americans expressed more confidence in the ability of Republicans or Democrats in Congress to deal with six major issues facing the country.

The midterms illustrated that Hopey Changey thing has worn out its welcome...and this is just more proof.

Of course they favor GOP when it comes to economics. Democrats don't know the first thing about economics.

Yeah right! Tell that to the people that are angry with Medicaid being cut or the people at Town hall meetings as seen in video bellow. And I also hate how about 1013 people were polled rolls eyes that real people in amerikca right their.

:lamo:

Somehow, I doubt that this poll is valid since because of only the number of People that were polled....."

Also the above video of a Republican town hall meeting.

It used to be that Democrats were just tax and spend nuts.

Today their game has changed under Socialist/Marxist Obama, he not only doesn't learn from his mistakes, to him they are not mistakes because he is on track to to wreck the economy, which is part of his Black Liberation Theology.

GOP is not the answer Conservatism is.

The really funny part is that people actually think our government has shifted left in recent years.

Also, Black Liberation Theology, that's a laugh.

Yet our debt continues to climb faster than GNP, on a consistent basis, during Republican administrations and fall during Democratic administrations. We are still digging our way out of the mess left by the last guy. Go figure.

Marxist? You have no clue what a marxist, or even socialist is if you are making this comparison.

and what does that chart do after 2008?

84 percent oppose Ryan’s Medicare plan

"According to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll, 65 percent of Americans oppose the idea -- about the same number who dismissed it in 1995. And if they’re told that the cost of private insurance for seniors is projected to outpace the cost of Medicare insurance for seniors -- which is exactly what CBO projects -- more than 80 percent of Americans oppose the plan."
Wonkbook: 84 percent oppose Ryan’s Medicare plan - Ezra Klein - The Washington Post

and what percent agree with the President's plan to cut Medicare by having an unaccountable board of bureacrats ration care?

when you actually ask Americans which they support - the Ryan or the Presidential plan, what do they answer?

:)

You can't really believe Obama is a socialist. Do you even know what socialism means? That is a serious question. The only politician we have on the national scene that is a socialist is Bernie Sanders.

and what does that chart do after 2008?

Goes up by about the same rate if the wars are included in both.

You know what happens to the chart if we ended the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq while eliminating the Bush tax cuts (which Rove admitted were engineered to be a time bomb for Dems btw)? Not only does it take a sharp decline, but its only slightly more expensive, by about a few 100 billion, than Ryan's plan. without removing the investment in things like schools, infrastructure, and energy and doesn't touch Medicare, Medicaid, or Social Security (they remain solvent for the same time period as Ryan's plan)

The complicated situation we find ourselves was caused by several things

* Decline in revenue base from both tax cuts and job loss/lack of growth
* 2 Wars completely paid for with borrowed money that are still on going (no exist stratagem from Bush)
* Housing collapse caused by ease of credit which was caused by a toxic cocktail of Fed manipulation, FHA polices, systemic banker greed
* Finical deregulation that allowed banks to have less capital to back deposits and make risky investments with said deposits
* Fractional reserve system in general

Most of the problems could be fixed by getting rid of the fractional reserve system by making it illegal because it is fraud. This would remove the strain on the Fed/Treasury by not requiring to ensure depositors funds are insured, make credit availability more in line with market demand, etc while at the same time allowing the deregulations to have nearly no affect on the system as a whole, since the "banks" would only have their own money to risk, not others.

Councilman, You can't really believe Obama is a socialist. Do you even know what socialism means?

The short answer is, no, he doesn't. The ultra far right use the TurtleDude economic ideology scale to determine what is socialism. See the illustration below:

He is a corporatist even if he doesn't agree with the tax cuts. Your little example just might not prove it. get it?

vote obama, 2012!

he caved to avoid losing!

LOL!

and what does that chart do after 2008?

2009 would be the the cut-off... and it does continue to climb as Bush turned over a budget that was running 1.2T deficits....

What is your point? That the debt to GDP continues to climb? Yes, it does. Would you like an explanation? Sorry, but the economy that Obama inherited had GDP in decline and deficits running a $1.2T per year. Given that you can not turnaround an economy very quick, its still Bush's fault for some reasonable period of time into the new presidency.

Obama is guilty of not fixing the mess, but not guilty of creating it.

If you use that sort of language in your polling, of course you can skew it towards the results you want.

vote, obama, 2012!

he's guilty of not fixing the mess!

tho he didn't create it!

i'm sorry, folks, i don't mean to belittle

it's that it's such a LOSING campaign

and it IS pretty accurately the lay of the land

I like how you "hate" the poll because they only asked 1013 people. However, Catawba posts a link to an older poll that sampled 1,001 people and all of a sudden you "like" it. I can't for the life of me figure out why you would like one but not the other. ;)

the president doesn't have a plan

and the president will never have a plan

he can never write his rhetoric into ITEMIZED form

which is why it is SEVEN HUNDRED DAYS since the united states senate PRINTED a budget

egregiously inexcusabile

y'know, IN TIMES LIKE THESE

if immediate action is not taken to fundamentally restructure our budget then our big 3 federal social programs will cease to exist in their present form

meanwhile, observant americans see that all barack the slasher's got is a great speech, an excellent speech

which he aint even saying THAT anymore

when's the last time he said, tax the rich, when's the last time he said, 500 billion in medicare savings?

when do you expect him to hammer that stump next?

don't hold your breath

stay up

In reading this thread, I am not surprised to see the partisan hackery on both sides of the aisle here. The way I see it, GOP batcrap crazy isn't any better that Dem batcrap crazy. But our nation will continue to bathe in batcrap crazy until they realize that the GOP-Democrat paradigm is to divide and conquer the American people. Until a valid third party comes along that truly represents the interests of the American people, the debate between batcrap crazy and batcrap crazy will continue.

FWIW:

Service of the federal debt as a percentage of GDP in 1990 was 4.6%. Service of the federal debt as a percentage of GDP in 2010 (20 years later) is 2.7%.

This is the historic low for the U.S.

I did not say it was a winning campaign.... I agree, its actually a loser as a campaign as the truth often is. Obama has two things going for him in 2012: 1) no one to run against him and 2) an even more untenable platform of let's screw the middle class and cut taxes on the rich even more....
