It came from customers who will no longer support gm and chrysler because they took the govt bailout money. Many people were not happy with that deal and now it is beginning to show.

Why would a family of 5 who is struggling to make ends meet buy a new car or truck? When I was younger and had no money, a thousand dollar ride was what we drove.

I'd like to go back to the days when profit wasn't an evil word and bankruptsy was.

If a company doesn't profit how the hell are they going to expand or investest in new technologies?

If Ford's doing this well, it means consumers are doing well also.
Nobody who wins a war indulges in a bifurcated definition of victory. War is a political act; victory and defeat have meaning only in political terms. A country incapable of achieving its political objectives at an acceptable cost is losing the war, regardless of battlefield events.

Bifurcating victory (e.g. winning militarily, losing politically) is a useful salve for defeated armies. The "stab in the back" narrative helped take the sting out of failure for German generals after WWI and their American counterparts after Vietnam.

All the same, it's nonsense. To paraphrase Vince Lombardi, show me a political loser, and I'll show you a loser.

Doesn't "in the black" mean something bad?

Anyway, my bad, SOME consumers are doing better. The uptick in sales of durable goods in general means something, though.

In accounting being in the black is good while being in the red isnt.

Yea some, but it shouldnt be spun that people are no longer hurting. Unemployment is still a bitch.

Interesting...wouldn't something like "in the green" make more sense? I have no accounting background so I'll just give you the benefit of the doubt.
