He will say that isn't how it is. Without the government forcing them to provide these homes, healthcare, or what have you, the system is a complete failure. He won't see it though. If people are provided with everything that gets people moving, no one will move. And since no one is moving, the government has no money.

    Best you got?

AUSTAN GOOLSBEE: I think the world vests too much power, certainly in the president, probably in Washington in general for its influence on the economy, because most all of the economy has nothing to do with the government.

Polls can show anything you want... seriously people only get excited when a poll says what they want to hear.

    Poll Question:

"Do you favor taxing Rich people or raising your taxes 20%"

    Headline:
80% Of American's Favor Taxing Rich!!!

    Liberal "ohh see see!"

    Impress me moar with "polls"

Polls hsow a Majority of people oppose Gay Marriage yet we keep hearing that we are supposed to ignore that... (and we could play this game ALL DAY LONG)

So your position is that the majority of Americans are stupid so they should not decide how their country is run, is that it? So you would prefer a dictatorship chosen by a fringe minority of the country?

I'm mocking polls. Polls can say whatever you want them to say. However oyu want them to say. This is true in 99.99% of all polls according to the poll I just took.

I guess that's all you have left, since there are no polls that show a majority of Americans support continuing the tax cuts for the rich.

Of course not. Because if you keep those tax cuts, omg those evil filthy rich bastards would not be punished for stealing from the POOR!

    Spare me, polls are worthless.

Folks, THIS is what Democracy looks like.

    Article is here.
Personally, I'm opposed to direct democracy because it undermines our representative democracy and calling a special referendum on the last election outcome seems not only inefficient in a system already profoundly inefficient but it also prevents further progress on anything else. Elections are expensive, not because of all the polling places and ballots and time but because of all the campaign promises. I hate like Hell to see one more election added to the calendar.

That said, the Wisconsin political leadership has brought this state of affairs upon themselves and further harmed the interests of their community. One could hardly think of a worse outcome for Wisconsin: locked in prolonged court battles and stymied by partisan recall elections. American politics has been taken over by the radicals who would rather tear this country apart rather than seek political compromises and resolutions. We are truly damned.

Both of these articles reference the same NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll.

Here are a few interesting questions from the NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll (including the one your articles refer to):

Q23: If the deficit cannot be eliminated solely by cutting wasteful federal spending, which one of these steps would you most favor?
    Cutting important programs = 35
    Raising taxes = 33
Postponing elimination of deficit = 26
    Combination (VOL) = 1
    Not sure = 5

Q26: Let me read you a number of other things that might be cut or eliminated as a way to reduce the current federal budget deficit. For each one, please tell me if you would find this totally acceptable, mostly acceptable, mostly unacceptable, or totally unacceptable as a way to help reduce the federal deficit.
Placing a surtax on federal income taxes for people earning over one million dollars a year: totally acceptable = 55
    mostly acceptable = 26
    mostly unacceptable = 11
    totally unacceptable = 6
    Not sure = 2

Q27: Having discussed all of this some more, which one of these steps would you most favor to deal with the federal deficit?
    Cutting important programs = 37
    Raising taxes = 29
Postponing elimination of deficit = 28
    Combination (VOL) = 2
    Not sure = 4
